Best P7 flashlight for bar use?

I'm planning to use a P7 torch on the bars for off road use. I'll cut the body down and make an external battery pack so there is no need to swap batteries over on the trail. So...

What is the best P7 light to use? I'm not thinking of a super expensive one here, probably a DX for around $40-$55 (am in the UK and DX ship here for free ). Obviously I'd like it regulated. Was thinking of a 2 cell one in the hope that it has a bit more power.

Opinions appreciated!

Thanks for the reply!

I have looked at that light but it costs a bit more than my total budget. I am hoping to get it all, including batteries for more like $80. I think I'll be looking at modifying a normal flashlight just to keep the costs down a bit.

The Airbike light does look fantastic and is much better value than most high power bike lights. Perhaps in the future I'll afford one.

Their have too another P7 lights for use with 2 18650 but the run time is the same, maybe I do the same of you, but I dont whant to cut the body, maybe I can try to make a piece that replace the body and had the connections to use a battery pack... Is that a good option???

The Aurora AK-P7-4 HA-III looks like a pretty good deal for $36!

I have a pretty good light setup but I was also looking at picking up a cheap P7 light to test and as back-up... Looking at the DX MTE SSC P7 C-Bin 900-Lumen 2-Mode light for $42 as it's been reviewed here and seems to have gotten some pretty good reviews on DX.

P7 with Rechargeable Batteries ... ???

Is there a P7 flashlight that uses rechargeable batteries? I notice the 18650 Lithium Ion batteries are very expensive!

Li-ion are rechargeable, and Li-ion chargers aren't that expensive. (Honestly, 18650s aren't all that expensive, either, if you compare them on a Wh basis...)

I didn't realize that the batteries were rechargeable ... So the price isn't that bad. Certainly much cheaper than buying disposable batteries all the time! I tried that when I got my first digital camera ....

here, CR123 primary cells cost more than an 18650 ordered online
(maybe thats why CR123 lights are not that common)

18650 are not only the best, they also are the cheapest way to drive good lights.

Perhaps the new P7 bike light sold by DX ?

Who's test it ? :D

I have just received my P7 DX bike light and I am impressed.
It is bright and has a great beam pattern - slightly floody which is good for a handlebar mounted light.
Comes with a 4 x 18650 battery pack for 3 hours runtime on max.
Has a sturdy O-ring type handlebar mount.

I also got a MTE P7-C 2-mode flashlight to mount on my helmet.
This makes an excellent combination for mountain biking with the MTE providing more of a spot beam to compliment the bike light's slightly floodier beam.

I am now looking for ways to connect an external battery to the MTE for a longer runtime. I have tried to remove the head, but it is on so tight I think it must be glued. I don't want to force it and break the light.
I will probably end up drilling a small hole in the body to feed a cable through for the external battery.

Thanks, that post is what gave me the idea, but I was reluctant to make any irreversible modifications. I only got my light last week and didn't have the heart to go and hack a perfectly good flashlight.
So last night I spent a few hours racking my brains to come up with a non-destructive alternative.

The end result was a remote 4P battery pack, with a "dummy cell" similar to the Turboferret which I made out of an old Crayola marker.
I removed the clickie switch and all the bits in the tailcap of the MTE, allowing the cable to pass through the hole at the back.
Its a simple exercise to put all the bits back together and restore my light to original spec.

I took photos but haven't downloaded them from the camera yet. Will try and post them tonight.
