There don't seem to be any newer threads on this. We have two 3-D Mags with the Malkin drop-ins. I'm reluctant to leave alkie D's in them due to possible leakage (already had a D cell Mag ruined) ... so am thinking lithium D's might be a safer alternative. But they seem pretty darn expensive. Where to get best/cheapest lithium D cells? Thanks

If you want cells to replace 3xD cells, you won't find them in lithium. Lithium D cells are 3.7v, not 1.5 like alkalines. There are a few ongoing threads on them in the battery subforum.

You could use twelve Energizer L91 lithiums in four AA to D "parallel" adapters which maintain 1.5v. A "series" adapter would bring it up to 4.5v per adapter = 13.5v total so make sure they are parallel NOT series: http://www.aventrade.com/baad.html I use this setup in a glove compartment flashlight after alkalines leaked in the hot summer heat & ruined a maglite.

Here is a "series" adapter to see the difference: http://www.kaidomain.com/WEBUI/ProductDetail.aspx?TranID=3294

I have Googled like crazy with every search term I could think of to find AA to D series adapters and have never managed to find that one. Has anyone tried it out? I know for the price you can't really complain, but since such adapters are rarer than hen's teeth I'm interested in how well it works. Even if it has high resistance, it could be modified to improve its conductivity and manage higher loads.

Google must work quicker in NY because it took me 10 seconds to find those!

OK, now I find them, here on CPF too! It must be because they are described as "trays" rather than "holders" or "adapters". A regular Google search doesn't seem to turn up Kaidomain unless I put "tray" in the query somewhere.

Either that, or my Google-fu sucks. :sigh:
