which luxeon lights throw best under 5.5 inches?

Aleph 3 head and Luxeon 3 on a 2xCR123 power pack. That thing with its 38mm reflector is unstoppable.

PR-Ts with their McR27 reflectors and Lux3s have awesome range as well, I clocked mine at 330 yards with a GPS. About the same size as the Surefire L4 (mine is mounted on an L4/Z57 power pack) with a bigger bezel.

I'm pretty sure that the L6 would violate his requirement of the light being under 5.5 inches. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yeah, but it's such a cool looking light that who cares that it's too big? My kids decided my L6 looked like a lightsaber. How can you not like a light that looks like that?!? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/stupid.gif

I know many LED lights throw further, but given Cheapo's requirements I think the LEDXTreme Predator comes closest.

Excellent throw for its size--its pocketable, albeit on the large size for a pocket light. Price is closer to his wants than some of the custom stuff mentioned, I think I got mine for $99 if the memory works correctly. For its size and price, I think the Predator is a great thrower.

Did I mention that this light runs on either 3 Alkaline AAA`s , 3 AAA nimh`s or 1 18650 2400mAh!? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Absolutley ALEPH III with a Lux3 and a Badboy 914 on 1x123 or 2xAAs in UBH--I have seen nothing able to shoot out that combination. If you want longer runtime-swith to a 750 or 500 Light Engine. The main advantage of an ALPEH is the modularity, you can ever carry a light that suits well /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif

woh, I am not a modder, nor do I know what these lights are and what they cost. Fill in the blanks please.

David/Cheapo,

One does not need to be a modder per se, to take advantage of the modularity/interchangeability of the McGizmo Aleph series of lights, which are also compatible with the SureFire E series of lights.

As was mentioned to your brothers Surefire_Rocks and Cornkid, you can go to the McGizmo forum on the CPF, and check out the FAQ sections on those lights. If after that you still have questions, I am certain people would be able to guide you from there.

Hope that helps,
John
