I have Sherlock season 1 ready to watch. The one seen earlier might have been a later
season. I also got some classic Sherlock Holmes episodes to watch.

Dave
I actually got Sherlock season 4, don't like it much, no plan to finish watching it. Holmes is too hyper among other things. I will look for season 1 or 2.

I am watching classic old Sherlock Holmes from 1954-55, 39 half-hour episodes in B/W, almost 20 hours worth. Acting is rather quaint, and everything gets solved rather quickly. It may be blinge-worthy but I plan to watch some now, some later, no blinge-fest planned.

Funny to see the diametric opposites, people going around in horse and buggy in one, and Sherlock using his iPhone in the other.

I love the old b&w movies of the 30s on. Bogart, Bacall, Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell, Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, Jimmy Cagney, etc. that really was the golden age of Hollywood, to me. Don't get me wrong, there's been great color stuff made too, but, they had real class and style back then.

Can't say that I'm a huge fan of old Hollywood, I like bits here and there, including Jimmy Stewart (where do you think I heard "Buffalo Gals"?). I enjoyed the Marx Brothers, wacky that it was. Once in high school was a Marx Brothers film festival, three movies shown back-back, a binge if there ever was one, at the time...

BTW near the end of final episode of Breaking Bad (bingeable), Todd is strangled but his phone is still going off (Lydia calling). I traced the video ringtone to a tune "Lydia the Tattooed Lady" which Groucho Marx sung and danced to in "At the Circus" (it's on YouTube). Very clever of the producers.

See, I know that tune from the movie The Philadelphia Story starring Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart.

Klinger sung "Lydia the tatooed lady" on MASH.

Speaking of MASH Ima get that one back out after we complete watching 'the Chosen' season 3.

The Chosen is about the life and times of a man named Jesus, son of Joseph. Season 3 he sends his followers off to far away places to speak the Word.

It takes a few liberties and at times treads on a slippery slope regarding what the Bible says. But it also depicts a man who was fun to be around most of the time and has powers to change things.

It's not preachy at all.

For a newer series,
last summer (when I had cable) ran across an AMC series called Dark Winds, produced by Robert Redford.
Draws you right in, really recommend.

Very good show. I read and loved all the Tony Hillerman novels this series is based on. His daughter, Anne Hillerman is one of the executive producers.

Agreed, Dark Winds is pretty good. We patiently season 2.

We picked up the box set of Warehouse 13 recently and have been watching that here and there. Some said it was a cross between Moonlighting, Bones, X-Files and Indiana Jones.

It's about a warehouse that's actually been around for centuries but this one is the 13th version. It houses artifacts once able to cause people to do stuff not unlike the series Friday the 13th did but the people finding the items to thwart the harm they cause are US government agents thought to be outcasts. Instead they were picked for unique abilities that made them outcasts in a convential scheme of things. Kinda like Rain Man without the antics if they didn't get to see judge Wapner.

It was 5 seasons from 09 to 014. It aired on the scfy network. I like it so far. It's a show you can watch with the grandkids around too so there's that.

I am now watching season 1. At one point Sherlock describes himself as a "highly-functioning sociopath". Starting to make more sense, but still rather frenetic.

Dave

BTW Sherlock is waving around a flashlight in one episode, don't suppose any flashlight sleuths on board have figured out what it is...

Just finished "Chromosome 21" on Netflix. It's a unique Chilean crime drama with subtitles but wow! Why can't US productions make anything that accurately features this subset of society in a compelling way. The actors are amazing!

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles would certainly make this list having 20 pages in its own thread

I have not seen it yet, but back then there weren't many players in the game. Ever Ready was an early one, French Flasher (eventually Rayovac), and Franco to name a few.

We did not finish the Sherlock series. It had become too whacky to want to watch by the end of season 3.

Deadwood update: just finished season 2

So far great series, in that it takes our modern problems & situations and sets them in a mining town nearly 150 years ago.
That may sound unoriginal, it's way better than that.
Ian McShane is the main actor by a mile, he owns his roles and simply blows my mind.

btw, the actor that's the doctor* is superb in complexity of character.
Quote from him in just the second episode..said in one sentence, without breaks, so I think I got it right.
"I see as much misery out of them movin' to justify themselves for them to set out to do harm'

1923 was great until the last episode. Dude botched the last episode badly. See, 1923 was a prequil to Yellowstone with the usual perils of the unethical trying to steal the Dutton land. Episodes 1-7 were a good mixture of Dutton perils and individual family member storylines. I'm thinkin' maybe Taylor didn't botch this one too.

Then the last episode was a Romeo & Julliet acts 1, 2 and 3 with a sprinkle of Dutton ranch dilemas and then.....the end credits. I don't care if there is a season 2 or not because Taylor Sheridan has screwed up another good tv show. I'm sure he'll figure out a way to screw up season 2 as well.

I'm a big fan of Harrison Ford, which is the only reason I watched 1923 to start with.

Finished Deadwood series last night & gotta say a bit of a headscratcher.
Clearly full intentions for a season 4 and it didn't happen ////
This is why they released a movie to finish the series many years later,, that's fine with me.

Still highly recommend.

note: if swearing offends you, stick to CSPAN hearings on VHS
