Bird flu scares the hect out of me

You must live in the socialist state of California where regulations, woke policies, and ecoterrorism raises all prices to ridiculous extremes. Besides the low prices of eggs, the local gas prices yesterday were $2.29/gallon. The smart play like many have done is to leave that state.
Would love to leave. The politics and the rest are sickening. But leaving isn't an option atm.
The fortunate thing is that most of my neck of the woods leans more to the right than left. So, locally it isn't as bad as the rest of commifornia.
(I've had contracts with the Navy for a couple of decades that are now fulfilled) I'm semi retired and do plan to move at full retirement. I have family all over the US so that makes it a little easier to do.

Is there surf in Mississippi? I heard that is some in some parts of the coast...but not sure about that.

Not any surf in the Gulf of America. Have to go to Florida, and other Atlantic Ocean areas.

I feel your pain at not being able to leave. Massive numbers and companies are moving out if able to.

Mississippi is one of the states with no tax on any retirement income. The property tax on our $950K 4600 sq ft home is $2150. I had been living in CT after being stationed at the U.S. Navy Subase with taxes on a 2950 sq ft $550K house was $12,750, + tax on retirement income and gas was $1.50-2.00 more a gallon.

I have family in Alabama. A retired tugboat captain. The humidity can be brutal there tho'.
I'm seriously thinking about Idaho. I have family up there as well. Beautiful country and lots of it available.

Property taxes are stupid cheap here, but unless you've owned it for decades, you're still paying on high dollar properties.

Your 950K home would be taxed about $7k
My home is almost double that.

Just a couple more years and this place can kiss my fuzzy *** goodbye LOL

Speaking of bird flu - I just read that another china-bat virus has been detected. Looks to be weaker than the previous one.
I've had the plague 3x now that I know of (probably 1 other time but didn't check

I don't want to go thru' that crap again.
**conspiracy**

Every time T Fs with china they let the bug loose.

No no no.
You do not want to come to Mississippi.

Speak no more of this place, for my fear is it will be known and suffer the same fate as others before it.

Point your diaspora elsewhere and leave us to our quiet swamp.
The Misses and I have been watching Home Town on Hulu. It was filmed in Mississippi. The town is really calling me. 🤓

There is no Gulf of Mexico. There is a Gulf of America, though.

Hahaha I hadn't heard about what you were talking about until I googled it. I didn't think the US has any right to name a part of ocean they don't own, similar to how Mexico and Cuba don't get to name it.

It looks like most countries don't actually recognize the name change, but I have no dog in that fight.

What a strange scenario

The gulf coast in MS is quite nice. Need AC in the summer. We live on a golf course and total family monthly dues are $300/mo.

It only matters what Trump designated it officially as Gulf of America. Even google maps show it. It was changed as well as putting Mt McKinley back from its Biden woke name.

Same for switching military bases back like the woke Ft Liberty back to Fort Bragg. Biden’s woke idiot squad decided to remove all references of U.S. Confederate generals names.

Much like Musk changing the name of Twitter, everybody still just calls it Twitter. Except for a few, die-hard Musk suck ups.

Everybody still calls it the Gulf of Mexico, like always. Just another empty gesture from an empty suit.
At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if he puts it out to be renamed by the highest bidder, like the Superdome.

It'd still just be the Gulf of Mexico, though.

It takes a while for new branding to be accepted, but let’s see if the Gulf of America renaming persists.

To be fair google maps outside the US still shows "Gulf of Mexico" as the main title it seems, but of course Google is a US company so it makes sense to use the local US name for places.
