After reading the thread : Why Surefire?
On the way home I picked up the Surefire G2 LED. Rated at 80 lumens, yet it's brighter then my quark AA2 rated at 200 lumens. WOW I'm hooked

I only payed 10 dollars more for the Surefire

Ceiling bounce showed it was brighter than all but the Quark Turbo mode.
Looks and feel on the hand, top notch construction. Worth the price, G2 is simplicity and durability personified.

congrats!

now you need a 6p, a SF with a dual stage tail switch, and at least one incan SF.......

its a "right of passage"

just kidding about that....

if you prefer LED only that's your choice(and I respect that).

I prefer incan(SF) around the house, where batteries are close if needed.

with that 6p you're getting, going incan will be a quick swap. (unless you get the 6p led with KX4 head)

I only have a couple incans... so, I'm not a "incan guy" or anything like that. I'm definitely a "LED guy".

I might know how you feel my friend.:D

Hehe alrighty, well the 6P LED I saw was also rated at 80 lumens, and since I haven't figured out paypal yet and lack patience. I'll probably get that one, then ask for a malkoff drop in for Christmas from my wife

Surefire is a bit conservative on their output claims. My E2L with a advertised 60 lumen output easily lights up a room better with a ceiling bounce than my Brinkmann "130 Lumen" light.
My E1L does the same thing with its claimed 45 lumen output when compared to my Fenix LD01 with its claimed 85 lumen output.

Well it's funny you say that. The "Why Surefire" thread I started is hitting epic levels at a record pace and I now asked about a couple of drop in comparisons. One is like 300 lumens :eek:and the other is a Malkoff that has a whole lot of "real level" 175 lumen lighting and lasts like 5 hours at max output. That is as much as my Inova T1 at 100 lumens and 1 hour more than my Inova T2 at 125 lumens. Pretty impressive for sure.

I may end up simply getting like 8 drop ins and sell all my other lights...:crackup::crackup:

Bit conservative yeah, I now know what you mean

I'm thinking the tri-xpg 1100 lumen 15 minutes of runtime will be the first drop in I buy. I'll check back in on the thread ;)

Congrats! Great choice for your first Surefire. I own a G3 and its great! Just wish I could run RCR123's. :( but getting back on topic, If you don't like it (highly unlikely) it wasn't a huge investment and you can now discuss Surefire lights based on your own experience. Now you just need a box of 123's and your good to go! :)

That doesn't sound right. Where did you buy your G2 LED? Cause the older models are rated at 80 lumens and uses the P60L whereas the newer G2's use the KX4 LED which surefire rates at 120 lumens. Assuming that you own the older 80 lumen rated model, that light should not be brighter than a quark 2AA, 4sevens rates their lights with OTF ratings, and the G2 LED only puts out 84 lumens at best. Are you sure when you're compairing the quark it's coming on in turbo mode?

If you did end up getting the older 80 lumen model I don't think it would be unwise to try and get a refund if possible and get the newest G2 led with the money, the price is the same and it's much brighter. In any regard, congrats on the purchase and good luck:)

got it at P&D enterprises, they definately don't carry the newest stock, and I compare them by looking into the light (not the most scientific, but I'm a carpenter) and the G2 definately looked brighter. Could be just that there's more reflector and less floody at 14 inches from eyeball (shrug) I definately think it's brighter. :candle:

Looking directly into the light is not a recommended way of compairing brightness between lights. One can't evaluate the difference by using that method.

In regards to returning it for a brighter one? No I need something for the future drop-ins. I feel less quilty putting an 80 lumen P60 in a drawer than I would a 120 lumen :grin2:
