I recently purchased a Z62 tailcap from a forum user for a lego L1 that I'm doing. There has been some conflicting information from my search, so I wanted to make a quick post to show my findings.

My original intent was to use my McClicky (pictured at 3 o'clock in the photo) to replace the stock components. Here's the procedure:

Unscrew retaining ring
Carefully remove boot
Pull the plunger from the assembly (opposite the spring side)
Then the whole assembly can be pulled out from the battery side

This particular one was a bit sticky, but it was due to the circuit board being a bit ratty on one edge. A quick few strokes with a file solved that.

Obviously this tailcap will not accept a McClicky without some serious lathe work. It has a flat plate that the boot sits upon, and the plunger sticks through.

Hope this helps someone else in the future

Unless I really missed seeing it, I think there is only one version of the McClicky. It's the small one in the photo. From my hands-on experience, the McGizmo switch seems to have been made for the old style e-series tailcaps that has the Allen bolt holding it together. It does not fit in the current e-series without a good deal of modification. In the tailcap shown above, there is a plate integral to the design that will not allow the use of another style of switch.
If someone knows how to make this happen short of some lathe work, I'd be intrigued to hear

Very interesting, thanks for posting the pics. We don't get that many threads on Z62 teardowns.

As far as I know, Blindasabat is the only other CPF'er who has posted his experience with these (his thread is here).
