I'm a total newbie and am lovin' this forum! I'm in the market for for a small really bright flashlight. Was looking at the tk35 but it uses 18650 and CR123. Never used these types of batteries before and a little hesitant so I'm looking for something using AA's. What the brightest out there for less than $200. I would prefer something less than 8 inches in length as I plan to mount it on my bike. Thanks!

The Fenix TK41 or TK45 are probably the brightest AA lights out there currently. The TK45 is more flood, TK41, more throw.

A less-expensive route would be the iTP A6 Polestar. Similar in total output, this floody light would make a great bike light.

Thanks for the info. I still haven't ruled out 18650 torches completely though. The tk35 is so tempting!

I'm new to this so please excuse me if this is a silky question. Throw means how far the light projects and flood means how wide the beam is? If so, wouldn't throw be better for biking since you could see further in front if you?

For biking you want a combination of throw and flood. It's a lot like motorcycles and cars. A pencil beam may let you see far but what happens when you need to turn? Or what happens if there's a deer on the side of the road? You'll be glad you have flood then. Lighting up more total area in front of you is more important that you think.
