Hi guys, just a quick question concerning the possibility of doing a Luxeon mod to a Brinkmann Legend 2D. I've been wanting to do a mod similar to Elektrolumen's Maglite 2D using 3C cells. I'm just wondering how hard it would be to do a similar mod to the Legend 2D. Has anyone done this yet? As I don't have any way of getting a Legend 2D except via mail order, I wanted to find out any problems someone else might have run into before I order one. Thanks!

Brinkmann 'D' cells work pretty good for a Luxeon Mod. I've done several with the 3 'D' cell Brinkmann's. I haven't tried it with the 2 'D' cell, as I don't have one. What matters is if the battery compartment will house the 3 'C' cells like the Mag Lite does so well. The Brinkmann costs about the same as a Mag Lite, so I go with Mag Lites.

LiteFreek,

The Brinkmann 2D can be used with 3C cells, but, when the tail cap is screwed on, it will tighten up with a gap left of about 1/8". You can however, use a rubber gasket to fill that gap and make it look pretty decent. The other draw back is there is no room for a spring, and because of the tail cap milling inside, you will need a small copper washer (or similar item, foil) to make contact with the negative battery terminal.

The Brinkmann can be used, but a Mag 2D will allow the use of a modified spring and the tail cap will screw all the way down tight.

So, the answer is yes, with a little effort. OR consider the Mag for an easy 3Cn2D mod.
