New guy here.

Picked up the Brinkmann LX at walymart. Spiffy.

Here's my Qs:

1. As the battery wears down, will the light get dimmer or will it just cut out once it is drained?
2. Is there any reason to buy expensive batteries? Or should i just get the cheapest 123s I can find?
3. I should get about 1 hour of light, right?

thanks!

1st post! Welcome, you'll find hours of reading here when you first get started. Good features to know are the "Search" function and at the very bottom of the page, there is an "Acronym" link.

The LX is a decent light, good bang for the buck. The Lithium cells have a good discharge curve but the LX is not regulated, so you will notice the light dimming as time goes on. You'll have plenty of notice that you need to replace the batteries. At 1 hour, the light is significanlty dimmer than with new batteries.

No reason to buy expensive batteries, you can find DL123s as cheap as $.50 each and they will work as good as any. When you upgrade to Surefire Lights with the High Output Lamps you will need better batteries to get the most out of it due to the high amp requirements.

1 hour of light, meaning gradual loss of light up to 1 hour at which point the light should be dim and yellow. The LX is not regulated so you will not get the same brightness for 1 hour.

1. It gets dimmer and dimmer
2. Some are better than others, but you generally get a better value if you go with the best prices (within reason).
3. It will run for an hour, but only about the first 35-40 minutes will be really bright.

Thanks folks. Now a followup question:

$.50?!?!?!

Ok, tried a froogle search on DL123, nothing there.

So where do i get these cheap batteries?

Thanks Again!

Try a search here for "DL123", "DL223" and read about it first. I get Duracell DL123's at $.50 each from a distrubutor in FL. I can't reveal his identity but that's about what they really cost. Anyway, from time to time I trade or sell tons of DL123s in the B/S/T forum.

You can split DL223 lithium cells and get 2 DL123s out of them. DL223s cost about a buck a piece in bulk. So try the search and read up and happy hunting!

1. With alakaline batteries the light will just get dimmer as opposed to rechargeable batteries where they will just cut out.

2. Expensive batteries? No. Quality batteries?yes. Be cautious of batteries on e-bay. I have bought quality and crap batteries on e-bay. For info stay away from the Panasonic 123s on e-bay. They are yellow in color and are labeled BR-2/3A 3V, MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC. I bought these and only after 30 seconds of intermittment use my beam got noticeably yellow. You can find quality batteries for good prices just stick with the name brands and a reputable seller.
3. 1 hour of continuous use, more if it is intermittment.

I hope this helps.

Dockersguy:

Panasonic makes CR123's in addition to BR123's. White colored BR123's came stock with my X5T, so they appear capable of handling 350 mA ar less. The predominantly black Panasonic CR123's are fine.
