Brinkmann Maxfire LX review

Nice for the price, but not as bright as I thought it would be. It sounds like it easily accepts the SureFire P60/61 LA though and has a glass lens. Hmmm. Anyone have an idea how long the P61 LA would go beofore it started to melt the plastic head?

Thanks,
Ken

I thought the Brinkman Maxfire was about the same brightness as a SFG2.

That's what i heard

Overall Output ~ 5200 which is exactly what the G2 is... The throw of the G2 is better than the Maxfire ~ 3534 vs. ~ 2400 probably due to reflector differences. Still heck of a deal for $19!
I agree with the review, the batteries that come with it are crap. When I replaced them I was suprised how much brighter it was!

Just make sure to get several dozen 123's from Surefire or Battery Station. You will need them. Run time is only 50 minutes. Very bright and white for the price. I like the old LX better that had the focusable head. they were $19 at Walmart. Most non flashaholics brought them back as a pair of 123's cost $12 at stores.

I don't think it has been mentioned yet but you can lock out the switch by turning the head of the light 1/2 a turn.

50 min run time? I believe that is reduced to 20 minutes with a p61 head. Still I use it a minute or less at a time and hte stock head and batteries lasted 10 months.

Cobb is right, 20 minutes with a p61, if you use it in small bursts, less if you run it for long periods as the load on the cells for the p61 is tremendous. They will also sometimes just fail without warning when you get the whole system really hot too. Like the heat keeps them going for a bit beyond their limits, and you give them 10 minutes to cool off and the light goes suddenly dead.

not to say that I don't LOVE the p61 in my ledgendLX /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Cause I DO love it. But the stock maxfire is very nice too.

I meant the stock light at 50 min not P61. I never owned a HOLA from Surefire and never will unless I get it for a gift. It better come with a Gross of 123's or I will give it back. The stock bulb in the LX is real good for the money. They only charged me a few bucks for replacements.
