Butter and Bread and Sandwiches Oh My! (II)

Basically yes it is a southern thing. At least the kind I was eating.

Finely ground hamburger mixed with a favorite sauce. Noodles boiled like normal. Mix together in a casserole dish and bake 20 minutes at 350 with foil covering the dish.
Remove from oven and cover with mozzerella, cheddar, parmesion or whatever cheese you prefer. Cook uncovered for 15 minutes.

Italian restaraunts serve it with or without cheese on top depending on the style of the particular owner.
Hmmm, I guess pasta is pasta, regardless of the shape.

My wife made a similar casserole, with small shells. The top layer of it was bread crumbs. It was cooked without a cover of foil for the crumbs to get toasty. The meat was fried and added to the sauce before baking.

Sourdough made from my homemade starter (yeast caught on the wind) and a nice angus ribeye. Add some baby spinach sautéed in butter, and we have a decent lunch at the office. :)

We occasionally did manicotti, growing up. Big pasta shells, or homemade pasta sufficient to make shells. Good, fresh ingredients. A half-decent marinara sauce. A mix of ricotta, mozarella, romano cheeses. Fresh herbs, a dash of salt and pepper. Some finely-shredded chicken, Italian sausage or a good ground beef. We used to make a couple dozen, then freeze the leftovers. Reheated on another day, even one would make a great snack or small lunch. Perfect for the winter months.

A nearby restaurant has manicotti. They do the herbs right, and their sauce is exceptional. My recollection is that the homemade ones were better. Been awhile since I last made them. Time to get crackin', I think. :)

any recipe for canned mackeral? also i found milk that is liquid milk but it dont require refrigeration how is this even possible? havent tasted it yet

When I first went away to college I was determined to NOT eat frozen TV dinners. I got my mom's recipe for tomato sauce and gave it a shot. Canned tomatoes, tomato paste, salt and pepper, oregano, and a couple of bay leaves. It came out good, but OMG it took hours, I think 3-4 hours.

I tried a jar of "Aunt Millies" that was also good. The difference just wasn't worth the time to make my mom's.

Now I find that I like Classico "Vodka sauce", and Prego "Roasted Garlic and Herbs" sauce.

What do you like in a jarred sauce?

You can make salmon cakes with canned mackeral.
Bread crumbs, an egg, all mixed with the fish. Add stuff like onions or pickles if you like that sort of thing.
Squish into patties and cook in a skillet with just enough oil to cover the bottom. Cook about 5 minutes each side with medium heat. Takes about 30 minutes total to prep and cook.

i think i messed it up lol i didnt have bread crumbs so i blended stuffing mix lol
👆 That sounds pretty good actually.

I baked these monsters Sunday afternoon. They were destined for the grill but at dinner time "kapow" sky to ground lightning and rain that'll drown a frog.

350 for 30 minutes wrapped in heavy foil. First I rubbed on seasoning salt. After 30 minutes the foil was opened and honey was poured over them. Stuck back in the oven for 15 minutes with the foil left open.

Served with store bought Amish potato salad. Mrs Fixer ate her entire 14oz chop. I ate half of my approx 18oz chop. Hers had a large bone so it was probably 10oz of meat. Mine had a small bone so it was probably 16oz of meat. The other half made a mighty fine lunch.

Had tacos for dinner Thu. Taco kits come with enough for 4 people. Being 2 eating there was some left over.

There was about 1/4 pound of the taco seasoned ground turkey and 5 shells left. (Chicken or beef based on preference)
- Crunched up the shells and mixed in a plastic container with the meat. (Best with a lid).
- Add some shredded cheddar cheese. (The more the merrier)
- Skake the container well and stick in the fridge overnight.

- The shell pieces soften nicely.
- When time to eat stick the container in a microwave (loose lid) for 45 seconds. Stir. The cheese melts nicely.

- Enjoy.

Wow! with all the cooking you do at the office I have to wonder how much work do you get done?

Wild caught yeast. A friend was telling me about wild caught yeast to make beer.
How do you know if you have enough to make bread?

Just had some delicious lobster ravioli with Vodka sauce for dinner (comes out looking pink).... And now I feel guilty for not having taken a pic. of it to post here.

Tonight the Yougins prepared Pineapple Cheeseburgers.
