Until recently this charger would properly charge any cell that would fit. Both NiCd & NiMH cells of all sizes would recharge.

Now it seems that only AA & AAA cells fully charge and C or D cells terminate very early - way before they should. This is happening with NiCd, NiMH, new and old cells, mostly discharged, from 3Ah to 7Ah capacity.

This doesn't make sense as one would think all sizes of cells would be affected. I'm checking into this in more detail and am not done fully testing the charger yet. I will appreciate any thoughts or info.

Is there any consensus regarding the bext value in a AA - D cell charger with options and display similar to the BC-900?

Thanks.

Seems to have been an intermittent problem. The charger came with a shorted switch from the factory and already needed some intervention. Time to check the guts again.

I truly love CCrane but a few years ago I got 2 QuickChargers from them 18 months apart that were messed up from the getgo. I switched to an Accumanager 20 about 3 years ago and am still using it. I know that many swear by the CC charger and I beleive them but I'm also convinced that there are some very real QC issues with that rig.

The Accumanager is gentle but slow -- particularly when charging hi-cap NiMH Ds. IIRC Silverfox said that cells come out of the Accumanager more fully charged than perhaps any other charger. Also they don't have to sit for a while on 'trickle' after a charge cycle to come up to full voltage as is the case with some chargers -- when the LED stops blinking on a cell in an Accumanager, it is really done.

Because of the time involved in charging Ds I finally broke down and bought a Maha C808M and I use it with the Accumanager. For the record if the Accumanager quit on me today I wouldn't hesitate to order another to replace it -- well, once I found the money....
