C&DO-Sink thead free round slug adjustment offer

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

I would love to make a single product. Don't get me wrong. At least in the beginning I will probably have to make seperate products. My engeneering system is slower than yours and I will have to go through a couple of sessions with my machinest buddy in order to get the design right. Somthing tells me that the change in slug design is being done to force design changes in finished product.
The Hex sink may acyually big a big O sink insted. It may not. I need to feel what the emitter lock feels like both ways. The whole idea with the O-Sink is to make it easy to center the emitter perfectly...everytime. That is the goal with the hex sink as well. I am just not sure that creating a system which dosen't have a positive lock will feel right to me. To use an O design with the hex slug pattern means the tips of the hex will actually have to be smaller than the O. That means there will a potiential for play. I am not sure that works for me. I like the idea of setting the desired lead position and locking the emitter in place in one step.
From my point of view untill, I get a final product information PDF (I only have a preliminary) or an actual part or two it is going to be tough for me to get the part ready.
If I work at it I will have some parts soon to work with.

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

According to my birdy at lumileds the lux III will continue to be manufactured concurrently with the k2.
I was wrong about the killing off the LUX III.

Yaesumofo,

The question I have about o-sinks is, When will I get the c size o-sink that I paid for in February, and why won't you answer my PMs or e-mails?
I have been, to date, polite, respectful, and patient. I have tried to do this in private, but have received no response from you at all.
Please PM or e-mail me so we can straighten this out.

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

Wish I had known earlier. All Back orders have been shiped as of the 30th. I know some sinks of the wrong dimention went out. Nothing heard about that.
To make a short story of it mckevin's pckage complete with a suprise is enroute.(tommorow)

Sorry about the mistake.
Should all be sorted now.
Yaesumofo
BTW Did anybody else get an order from me that was wrong or screwed up in some way? If so Please PM me so we can fix it asap!!!

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

Hey guys. I have to say I am sorry. Some of you probably felt that I was giving you the silent treatment. This was not intentional. I set up an Gmail address specifically for the O-Sink/ CPF e-mail traffic.
I made a mistake in the settings. I have not been receiving mail from this account. I have not responded to many many messages. I am sorry to all of you.
I have fixed the problem so go ahead and e-mail away. Rest assured I will respond within a reasonable amount of time.

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

good to see that the 'last resort' from kevin seemed to work, and that even with the obvious level of frustration, level heads were kept.. i had some very good emails back n forth with yaesumofo, but must have used the same account that was defunct at first, but somehow landed on the 'working one'.. good to hear thats fixed.. keep up the inspirational work with the heat sinks.

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

Thanks for your response and your efforts in finding the snafu. I never felt that you were deliberately trying to cheat me, but the silence was getting frustrating...
Apologies to everyone else for feeling this way, but in a bizarre sort of way it makes me feel better that it wasn't just me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
"Suprise" huh?? Feels like Christmas!

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

is the machined out center where the slug sits supposed to be sor ot "ovalish", for some reason my R/O slug doesnt quite sit right in the center. any ideas?

It certailly is OVAL that is the exact shape of the LUX III emitter slug. Is the RO a LUX III LED?

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

yes it is I think it is (bin # G2GH, its one of the new 1400ma R/O 190 lumen stars) , i cleaned off the slug some more to see the shape, this is the first o-sink i have used so maybe its just a newb thing for me.

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

Yep, that slug has gotta be spotless. I've discovered what works is to lightly push the Lux against the Osink and and turn it. When it hits the right place, to almost snaps into place and won't turn anymore. Remember that position well when it comes time to glue it down.

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

okay in comparing the R/O slug to another white slug it seems the R/O is a little more round and wider, just enougth that it wont seat in the center. The other emitter seats fine in the center but not the R/O. Interesting, maybe a dremel to help the slug, or I may just get a hotlips flat pedestal for the project and use the o-sink for something else. Anyone else able to get a R/O Lux III seated in O-sink?

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

okay nevermind after using a scribe i found some expoxy i missed (under magnifying glass) and cleaned it off and it seats better now. Thanks for the help

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

Sounds like a bin code I am not familiar with. I check by bin codes here:
http://home.comcast.net/~theledguy/bin_codes/index.htm
Anyway the O-Sink is designed specifically for the LUX III.
Getting the emitter vs the stars is a lot less work.
As mentioned elsewhere in this thread. The slug must be COMPLETLY FREE of any debris. Any little chunk of excess adhesive must be removed. The tolerance is tight.
The result is great with a bit patience.

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

G2GH is 155-200lumens 613-620nm 2.79-3.03volts and H just means R/O. http://www.lumileds.com/pdfs/AB21.PDF

What I use to clean up emitters after removing from a star is to take a flat razor blade that's not mounted in anything and lay it at a 45 degree angle and "wipe" away any excess adhesive. Then I go around the edge of the slug and "flip" up with the blade to flake off any around the edges. This works pretty good for me.

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

Hey guys just to let you know that a copper O-Sink is in the works. 4,5,6, weeks away. Also Flashlightlens.com has a full stock of "D" OLD"C" and NEW"C" O-Sinks.
If you have any questions or issues I am here to help if I can. So Just ask.
I can also say for sure that ALL Lumileds emitters will be moving over to a round slug .vs the oval slug you see mostly today. As a test I took a precious new 5 watt Emitter and in less than 5 minutes work with a dremel and the smallest bit I could find (think tooth drill) I was able to open up an existing(oval) O-Sink for use with the new circular slug
The light came out perfectly if any of you have O-sinks and need them to fit the new round slug just drop me a line and I will be happy to make the adjustment for you at no charge of course, You will have to send it to me though. I will be able to turn it around in a day or so. I am happy to pick up return postage but it would probably be faster if you sent a self addressed pre paid envelope. I am just not that great at getting to the post office.
Just PM me if you need this service.

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

I was just about to order one when I saw the comment that copper will be made soon /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif . I will wait till that occurs. Any idea of the cost for copper ones yet?

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

So do new 5watters have a round slug??

A re-design with a round o-sink slug area *should* fit even oval luxeon slugs if they didn't make the slug smaller..

Re: C & D O-Sink unified thread

Yeah, I think all the new Lux Vs have a round slug. I was putting together a light with one of the VWOSs I just bought from etendue and I noticed that it wouldn't fit into the o-sink. I removed the still wet epoxy and found the round slug. I checked the other Lux Vs I had and all had the round slug at the bottom.

I was able to mod the o-sink slightly to fit the emitter, but it would be nice if the new o-sinks would reflect the change. Even a round depression in the o-sink will center the oval slug. And it would be easier to fit emitters that were once stars because you wouldn't need to be so perfect when removing the old epoxy.
