I know that running a 3cell magstar lamp with 4 primary cells (6v total) will instaflash, but if i use 4 rechargeables (4.8v total) will it work/ is it going to burn out too fast?
More importantly will I see an improvement over 3 primary cells apart from more stable output over runtime?
Last question - What are the highest capacity rechargeable C cells you can get in the uk, and where do i get them?

Thanks

OK! You're Dumb

Actually, I've run the stock Mag 3 cell bulb in a Mag4d with alkaline cells without instaflashing. I don't know if the Krypton or Xenon bulbs will tolerate it. The may be running closer to their limits so be unable to take the extra cell. To my eye, the relative brightness of the overdriven 3-cell bulb is just a little bit more than a 4-cell xenon bulb, but it is much whiter. No yellow tint to the beam. And the stock 3-cell bulb is a lot cheaper.

hi,

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-x-5000mAh-U...hZ011QQcategoryZ40975QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem

we dont seem to have the choice that the yanks have, these are the best i have found...

I run 5 "C" alkalines in a 4D Mag. The best bulb is the Krypton bulb. The Xenon and Halogen will probably flash, I had some flash. Matter of fact, the Krypton bulb gave the best beam pattern too.

I run 4C cells in a 3D (with new tailspring, $0.89 at Ace hardware) and both the Krypton and Xenon Mag bulbs - they have not instaflashed yet. I don't use them enough to see how much their life will be shortened.

(PS - I also use a 4 cell Xenon Magnum Star in a 5D - looks great. I found the bulbs for 2/$1.97 at Home Depot).

For 4 NiMH cells, the KPR139 bulb is a very good match. Good output and much longer bulb life than either the Xenon or Krypton variants of the Magnum 3-cell bulbs, in my experience.
