Can't resize ActiveSync window

I'm not sure how this happened, but my ActiveSync window is stretched out and covers the length of my laptop display and part of the adjacent screen (I work with 2 monitors).

I can't seem to find a way of resizing said window. There's no "size" option available when I right-click on the top bar, and there are no resizing cursors when I point to the edges of the window. I'm using the latest AS (4.5), and this only started happening yesterday. I already tried reinstalling the app.

Any ideas?

GreenLED,

Try to select a lower screen resolution. This might force the application window to resize to a smaller size. Then increase the resolution back again

:thanks: Jan, that provided a partial fix. At least now the application window does not span both monitors. It still looks like this partial screenshot of my desktop, though (the black desktop is normal), and I still can't manually resize it:

Turn off your dual monitors temporarily. Open the application in your main laptop window and maximize it. Close the program from the maximized view. Open it again to make sure it starts maximized. Close it out again and re-enable your second monitor.

If the application is something that can not be maximized then just resize it until it is small enough to fit easily inside the laptop screen then shut the application off.

Not sure if this will apply but my first thought was to look for an ActiveSync ".ini" file if there is one and see if the resolution is in a line in there. If so just edit it down to something reasonable. I used to have a dual monitor card and setup and that's a good place to look also for the cause of the problem. Might find some settings in the advanced settings for the adapter that could force it back to one window.

Thanks, Ras. I tried that before my last post (back to one monitor, change resolutions, start, restart, change resolutions again, etc.), and it sort of worked. At least the ActiveSync window doesn't span both monitors. Now it looks like the pic I posted (which is still twice as wide as it should be).

Like I said, the issue is that there is no option to resize the window: the "size" option is grayed out from the secondary menu, and there are no resizing handles when I hover my mouse on the edges of the window.

I can't find the .ini associated with wcescomm.exe (that's the ActiveSync program). Any hints?

Thanks for the help!

Did you ever find a solution to this one? I am facing the very same problem on my computer.

Thanks in advance.

I think it is normal behavior to not be able to resize ActiveSync. I'm using 4.2 adn I can't maximize. The window is always the same size. There are no resize capabilities either as never get a double-headed arrow anywhere on the edges.

You are absolutely right - the size of the window is locked by design. However I am quite sure that the window is not intended to be 1400 pixels wide, as it currently is on my system.

From the description above it seems that greenLED has been facing the exact same problem, which is why I am asking here if a solution was ever found.

That's exactly right, David. Our ActiveSyncs are stuck at an odd (and larger than normal) pixel size.

I haven't found a solution. Luckily, I work with 2 monitors, so I shoved the AS window in a corner of my secondary screen. :)

Odd behavior. I have two displays and haven't experienced that cool "feature". I'll keep my eyes open for a solution.

Can you grab the edge of the window and drag it smaller?

At least you guys can still see your ActiveSync window.

My ActiveSync window is somewhere above the top of my screen, and there's no way I've found to move it where it's visible. :ohgeez:

If you can see ActiveSync in your task bar you can get it back.

Right-click on the program when it is on the task bar and select "Move".

DON'T USE THE MOUSE!!! Use the arrow keys to move the ActiveSync Window back to where it belongs.

I could not find a link but there is a solution to this, it refers to ini file, registry edit.

(hint) Windows OS store the windows APP settings (like size, location and state) in registry and some where in ini file for each of the application windows. x

Thanks!

I had tried right-click/move, but then the mouse. Arrow keys FTW!

:grin2:

Already tried and mentioned it in the OP.

Registry, eh, Viren? I'll have to dig around.

Geeman, that's an awesome tip - sometimes windows get "lost" like that when switching between multiple locations and number of monitors.

Most welcome all. I owe the forum some knowledge being a noob.

yup, most of applications have The window size and position saved in registry so that the window will appear exactly at the same position every time you start the application.

I have been looking for the specific active sync page but still unable to find... :(
