Pardon if this is the wrong forum.

Will or when are led lights going to make it to car headlights?

I just replaced bulbs on my car twice in 6 months

Sounds like you should look into HID lights for your car. They are far more durable and will outlast your stock bulbs. LED's are still a long way away from being used in for the headlights and high beams though.

Audi offers them on one model, but it's a $7,000 option with a very sophisticated power and cooling management system. Definitely not an easy mod, nor do I think they'll get widespread popularity on headlight applications.

Interesting. So no practical applications yet. It would be nice for the headlight to outlive the engine.

Well reading LEDobsession's thread I just discovered these beautys! Not quite headlights but awesome none the less. And of course his own 8xP7 creation looks awesome too! But all of these are WAY up there in price.

Welcome to CPF, almach1.

I'll move this to the Automotive section for you - there are some knowledgeable members there who may be able to advise you.

LED headlamps already exist. There are several Lexus hybrid models with them, you can get them on the new Prius, the Audi R8 has them, and there are a lot more to be released over the next few years. Truck-Lite makes a 7" round LED headlamp that replaces a sealed beam of the same size...performance isn't very good, but it's a legal LED headlamp.

GSXRAC's suggestion to put in Xenons is wrong. "Xenon kits" in halogen-bulb headlamps (any kit, any headlamp, any vehicle) do not work safely or effectively, which is why they are illegal. See http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html .

What kind of car are you driving, and what (exact) bulbs have you been buying?

what bulbs you using? many over-wattage or aftermarket bulbs just aren't built as well. Go with a regular, untinted bulb made by a well-reputed manufacturer.
