Enlightened
Just a quick note, this is not a full on review of the light. I'll the pros do that leg work. :nana:
I'm a full-time night shift law enforcement officer and depend on lighting to function and to survive. Up until today I've been depending on my Fenix TK30 at work. I started out with an SL-20X with a Malkoff 3x Q5 module before switching to the TK30 to reduce carry weight. While the TK30 did it's job, I missed the weight of the SL-20X. I've used the TK30 to bang on doors and car windows and it has held up fine but it just needed the extra ounces.
With that said, we are also allowed by policy to use our flashlight as an intermediate impact weapon (ie baton).
I knew the Catapult (V1) was out when I bought my TK30 but didn't give it a thought. As soon as I caught wind of V2 and the brief reviews on here, I had to have one. My initial fear was having too strong of a beam for work up close. The spill is fine to see what is in front of me as I tested it in my dark garage. My concerns have been put to rest.
(PS- Thanks to goinggear.com!!!)
This light is BEEFY. It's heavy and feels much more solid than the TK30. The balance of the light is quite nice as well. It's slightly head heavy but feels really good. If the light is going to fail, it's going to fail in my work environment. I'm notorious at using my lights to bang on stuff. You'll be the first to know if there is a failure.
For now here are some quickie shots. There's still about 6 hours of daylight left. I'll post some comparison pictures tonight and more outdoor beamshots.
V2 on high
The only thing I don't like so far... On the very outer edge of the spill, you can see a defined line/border. I'm guessing it has to do with the lens. You can also see other lines. It's only there if you're paying attention to it. Pics below...
There is also a bit of battery rattle. I'm going to lightly wrap some tape around my AW 18650s to see if it will reduce the noise.
Stay tuned for more. lovecpf
