Changing colored LEDs on Surefire A2?

I don't know much about the Aviator. Can the colored LEDs on the Surefire A2 be changed easily without "modding" the light.

I stumbled upon a great deal for brand new A2s (round AND square body) but they are only available in white LED. I would prefer any of the other colors over white.

Thanks.

Send a PM to milkyspit. Scott has done quite a few modded SF lights for me and does excellent work. I've actually talked to him about this very mod to put white Nichia's on my A2 so I'm sure it's a fairly simple mod that he can do.

You could also get the whites and trade one of them to me for my red one :) Instant LED color change!

All you do is take out the lamp, remove the screws, take out the LED ring, put different color ring in, put the screws back in, put the lamp back in.

CPF user Koala is working on an LED ring that lets you plug different types of LED's into your LED ring. Should be interesting.

Also, maybe Surefire will sell you just an LED ring, if you want one of the colors they have. Give them a call.

Thank you all for the prompt responses. I think you've answered my question.

I also called SF to inquire about purchasing an LED ring. As greenLED indicated, they told me that the LEDs are not available. I took a quick glance over on B/S/T and saw one, but it's for $60. And, I'm sure getting someone to mod my light will not be cheap either.

It looks as though it's simply not cost effective or practical to buy one color and try to change it to another. You might as well just order a new one from SF with the color you want.

Honestly, I wasn't really in the market for an A2 anyway, but I just happened to walk into this little outdoor/gun store up here in NH and saw a whole rack of A2s marked down to $139.95. There was about 9 total with 2 of them being the old flat sided ones. All had white LEDs. I really like the look of that old flat side style! :)

I know I have a serious SF illness when I find myself trying to justify a purchase that I had no real need or desire for. If the old style had colored LEDs I'm pretty certain I would have walked out with one. Even now, I'm tempted. Oh Boy, I'm doomed. :shakehead

Hey JJV - I see you are "near boston". If you really want a white A2, you could come up to NH and buy all these A2s so I'm not tempted myself. :)

Seriously, in case anyone is interested, the store is called FOX RIDGE OUTFITTERS, located in Rochester, NH. Phone number (603) 335-2999. Perhaps they'll ship. There's no sales tax here in the great state of NH either.

I just dropped over $300 this past weekend on 3 other SF lights, all different. If I made a road trip to pick up a redundant light I would for sure be in divorce court :mecry:

Redundant light, ha ha that's funny  I can justify different lights, but to the uninitiated (that's defined as 99.9 percent of the rest of the population), more than one is the definition of redundant!

Well, resistance was futile. So much for will power. :shakehead :) I lasted all of about 24 hours before caving in and picking up a flat-sided A2 brand new in box.

It seemed like too good of a deal to pass up. Although I would have preferred a colored LED, I'm very happy with my purchase. And who knows, one of these days I may come across someone selling a colored LED ring. I find the look and feel of the square body very appealing.

For anyone interested, they still have one square body and four round bodys left. All are white LED and $139.95. (I'll go post this info in the "good deals" forum where it belongs.)

My quest for a colored LED ring begins...
