I charge my 18650s and 14500s with LiFePo4 chemistry using magnets soldered to alligator clips and an Ultrafire WF-138

I am about to give a few cells to a mate of mine that uses a Trustfire TR-801. he is presently using unprotected 18650s charging on a DSD charger from DX so i think this is a step forward for him in Lion battery safety.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to find an inexpensive charger for him to use with these LiFePo4 cells (that does not require alligator clips/magnets etc). All the 3.0V chargers only fit 16450s (WF-138, Nano etc).

Are there any 3.0V nominal chargers out there that have cradles that fit the 18650 form factor?

(DIY is not an option for him alas)

I don't know of any, bigbear. The 3.6-3.8 Volt chargers are hard enough to find as it is.

Then there are the folks that try to use a 4.4-4.5 Volt "3 volt" LiCo Li-Ion charger to charge their LiFe cells and end up killing their cells. Hopefully, as LiFe cells catch on a bit more, this will change. As it is, I went the hobby charger route, as my LiFe collection is growing. While I do have a WF-138 as you do, I didn't like the idea of adapting etc. I have enough stuff around here that's like that already. :)

The hobby charger is turning out to be quite useful for other types of Li-Ion's and NiMH packs, as well, in addition to using it for the larger LiFe cells. For now, while not so simple a way to go, it really works the best for me.

I know of a chinese one on ebay.

Search:
"Ni-MH Ni-Cd LiFePO4 Li-ion battery smart quick charger!"

On ebay.
I have one of those. They are slow. I'll charge a lifepo4 cell one at a time so they get hit with a healthier C-Rate, but they get the job done.
