I have a MH-C204F AA charger and I use greenbatteries.com's 2400mAh NiMhs. THe last time I used the charger the batteries got so hot I could barely handle them. I don't think it's safe anymore. I think I need a new charger... what is a good charger for AAs? Also are these batteries literally 'toast' now?

This is difficult to answer precisely.

In general, batteries do tend to get somewhat hot at the end of charging. It is normal.

In general, faster chargers make batteries hotter than slower chargers.

In general, older batteries get hotter than newer batteries.

For a modern charger with good features, you could look at the Duracell CEF23. I own the similar CEF21 and it charges batteries completely while keeping them nice and cool.
