I just want something I can stock the house/garage/backroom/shed with so anyone can use anytime (or emergencies) w/o me worrying about a valuable flashlight being misplaced, damaged or completely "walking off" for good. 😳 So brightness doesn't have to be spectacular.

I searched around and came up with this:
http://www.flashlightreviews.info/nichia/energizer-hard-case-work-tuf2aa1e
It can be found as cheap as 7$ online and uses a 5mm Nichia. So this would be about as bright or maybe brighter (since it has some sort of reflector) than a Fenix E01?

Any better (cheaper) suggestions for me?😕

I suggest looking around at Deal Extreme. They have a decent selection. I got a Cree Ultrafire A10 for about $15 or so. I really like it.

Target is also a good place to look. I got a Life Gear light from there that is really good. Runs around $20.

Both lights put out around 60-80 Lm.

I really like this guy:
http://www.goldengadgets.com/led-li...shlights/cj-1-watt-pocket-led-flashlight.html

I've bought 3 of these and they are very nice. Good runtime, about 35-50 lumens. Direct driven. The tints I have received have all been pretty decent. I got one that had a gorgeous tint, one that was a little blue and the last was a little bluer. Still for 4 bucks it is a really nice light, it has a pretty nice beam profile too.

Of course you can always get a tank AA or a romisen AA but those will run you higher in the 10 dollar range:

this tank looks pretty nice but a little pricier too:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.24125

both of these will be very bright probably more than you need though.

Why not go AAA and get the single mode ITP A3 for around $20? It's $5 more than the Fenix E01, but much brighter (due to a Cree led and good reflector). AAA batts are about as inexpensive as you can get, so that should make up for the higher cost of the A3 versus a AA size light (or any other battery format). There are cheaper alternatives, but I wouldn't trust the quality of the DX/KD lights for completing any task, even just knocking around the house. I'd say that Energizer is a great deal though. Especially for 7 presidents. Stick with a reputable brand, and you will not be dissapointed.

When someone ask about a flashlight for use in emergencies I allways think in 2xAA lights.

AA instead AAA adds more runtime (2xAA will add even more) and instead of CR123A will add "convenience" and "easy to find".

Try a Romisen RC-N3. You can use 2xAA or 1xCR123A and it is one of the most "reputed" cheap brands here in CPF. There is even a warm tint version now.

A lot of great suggestions, ty. But which to buy I still haven't decided yet.

The 4$ LED is looking real tempting, I can buy about 4 of those for less than 16$ incl the 10% discount. But I was hoping for something that has a longer life (at least 8-10hrs or more) that also doesn't cost too much.

It is tougher to find lights with long run time for cheap than it is to find bright lights for cheap. Maybe a fenix E01 might be good for you or if you can go a little higher a 2 mode romisen rc-n3 from shiningbeam:
http://www.shiningbeam.com/servlet/the-122/Romisen-RC-dsh-N3-II-Cree/Detail

12 hours on medium mode, 3 on high and has a lot of versatility, however it is like 25 bucks. Still quite cheap but maybe more than what you want to spend.

i just ordered this light for $9.99 just to try out, 160 lumens (haha, yeah right) and it looks like a single mode Akoray

Dorcy has some nice lights http://www.dorcydirect.com/c-1-led-flashlights.aspx

the 41-4239 AA is a cell vampire -- it's gets very dim but doesn't seem to go completely out until the cell is virtually dead. The second page has a 2AA light for only $4 (and there 15% off now on Dorcy light with free shipping for orders of $20.

They don't make the best lights but the quality is pretty decent for the prices.

If size & output aren't factors for consideration the Dorcy 41-4239 (as suggested above) looks hard to beat, even better it's not a plastic casing & at $7.99 USD a pop (free AA energizer & shipping) you wouldn't miss it if it grew legs and walked :ohgeez:

My local target has this light for $9. Its really solid and hefty feeling. You should be aware that it has a fish-eye optic (aspheric) so its going to cast a round spot of light, as opposed to a smooth flood like the E-01. The Dorcy 1AAA shown above also has a similar beam.

For $7, IMHO you are lucky to just have something that is reliable and doesn't break. At that price point even the Ultra Infinity, E01, RC-G2, and Akoray lights are too $$. FWIW the energizer hard case 2AAA I own has proven to be very durable as an around the house kind of light. I have dropped it several times and it is water splash resistant. Its about 25L and uses a cree XR-C. I got it for $9 at home depot. I like your 2AA version better though, it should run a LOT longer with the Nichia emitter. That fish eye optic however is going to limit its lumen output.

8-10hrs?!

dude, i dont think even a 6cell MagLight lasts that long.

if you want something cheap and you can have in every room in the house, go with the GoldenGadgets for $4

edit:
ok, something with low light output might last > 10hrs.

but whats the point of a flashlight that doesnt produce much light?

I went to Walmart today and got the two-pack of Eveready "Brilliant Solutions) 3aaa lights. BRLED3AAA-B2, for $8.88. (the '2' meaning 2-pack)
http://www.rayovacindustrial.com/products_flash_brilliant.shtml

They put out what looks abut 30 or 35 lumens, in a spot. They have a bright halo around the spot which is very annoying -- looks like the LED on one is misaligned with heavy lead artifacts and off center oval shaped spot. Cheap plastic -- but they are cheap, and will do for an emergency light in a pinch. Package says it will run for 40 hours using the heavy duty (zinc chloride) cells (included in package).

I have a few of that pen light on the linked page BRSLEDPEN-B and they ae not bad, and Walmart sells one similar but of heavy aluminum with a twisty switch and chain for keyring *which I always have in a pocket) -- about $3 each. These are dimmer -- maybe 5 lumens(?). But again they aaa, not aa.

You could also get one of those drop-in LED bulbs they sell for about $8 or $9 http://www.niteize.com/productdetail.php?category_id=28&product_id=127 and use it a cheap 2-D or 2-aa light from a dollar-store. (Maybe cheaper on line -- and http://www.dorcydirect.com/p-86-41-1642-15-v-8-volt-1-watt-led-module.aspx sells a 1-watt one for $10).

It depends on what sort of use and how bright and the kind of 'emergency' you are thinking of.
