I fried the drop in module part of a Uniquefire L2 R5 which of course is a P60 host with a XP-G R5 dropin.

I did this by playing around with the dropin module in another light...anyway I ordered another rather than just the dropin since the price was close ($13 vs $19) and now I'll have an extra body to play around with.

What I'd like to do is to also order a XP-E R2 dropin module and a 28mm aspheric lens to use with the extra P60 host...just to have a mini spotlight in effect with no spill.

I've tested this out a bit by taking the aspheric lens out of my DX flood-to-throw light (C30) and it fits in the P60 host as a replacement for the front lens.

To make this really work with the dropin I have coming however I need to leave the reflector on (or make a tube that is just as long as the reflector) to keep things tight and electrically connected.

Has anyone done something similar? Could I leave the reflector in place and simply spray paint it matte black?

If all of this works I might try to find a better aspheric lens at some point in the future. For now I just want to keep it as simple as possible.

If leaving the reflector in (painted black) isn't too much of an issue then I'll try to get the aspheric to be slightly out of focus to where it still throws but is just starting to look more round.

Should this work?

An R2 with an aspheric should (I would think) throw further than my existing P4 flood-to-throw DX light. It will be using a 18650, will look better and will give me the option to tweak it a bit later perhaps with a better aspheric optic.

Heres a very useful thread for you to thumb through (actually click through)

Just in case you dont want to read 3 pages, ill sum it up for you. Buy these and you'll have an inexpensive, pocket thrower.

I did this myself and I could not be happier with the results. the thing throws so much light, your non-flashaholic friends wont believe it. And just in case your new to lights that are designed to throw; the spot of this light (if done correctly) will be shaped like a square. Also, I had to slightly sand down the edge of the DX lens for it to fit correctly (only about half a millimeter).

I essentially have those either here or on order. I have a P60 host and that aspheric lens on order but the one I took out of my DX adjustable thrower is more or less the same I believe.

I'm wondering about the reflector. Usually lights designed for throw and that use aspheric lens don't also use reflectors. Usually, it makes the output worse (looking). I'm wondering what your setup would look like without the reflector or with it painted black.

I'm also curious as to how far that setup throws in comparison to the $10 DX flood-to-throw lights.

When I get all the parts I think I'm going to try to set the aspheric lens up so that it is slightly out of focus so that the beam shape is more round rather than an image of the emitter.

the x200 may have a more accurate cleaner beam, but it only outputs 100 lumens

And are you saying that the light that is reflected off of the reflector is wasted light? Does that light just turn into flood?

I've just heard that it's not good but with the parts I have at hand I've not been able to test it out yet. With the parts I have the reflector keeps the aspheric from being at it's focal point.

I've heard that it makes the beam look worse but I don't know for sure and would like to hear more from others.

I'd be interested to see how the aspheric worked in a XP-G light as well.
