Some of you may remember me posting a diagram on how lasers work about 3wks to a month ago. I posted it on the wickedlasers forum, and I was asked to make another diagram for them with a driverboard and batteries. Heres what I posted:

Here's what I made for wicked (its messed up a little somehow):

I was looking around their site today to see if it was ever put on there, and heres what I found on their site:

Am I in the wrong for being mad? From my point of view, they took the information I posted, and changed the pic to their liking. What do you guys think?

Well, looks like they liked your picture enough to be inspired to create their own.

Should you be mad? Well, I don't see anything from your image being used there, surely it may well have been inspired by you, but there isn't anything you could do legally, so getting worked up over it is rather pointless.

Im not saying I should do anything legally, its just the moral part that gets me. I worked hard to make that thing for them, without pay in any form or with expecting anything in return, and they turn around and change it, then put a copyright on it, therefore taking credit for it. They quoted everything I wrote about the workings of the lasers, made an almost exact copy of the pic itself, then claimed it for their own. Im not trying to make this a cheers n jeers, Im just trying to get some opinions mods.

Wicked Lasers... Moral? Hmm... I like how they delete posts they don't like, instead of trying to fix any dissatisfaction.

Write them back and ask them to credit you on the picture. I think that's only fair.

I agree. This pisses me off too, I understand how you feel. Took your hard work and, bam, copyright it as their own(with MINOR changes).

But that's not his picture. It was his design, but the illustration is a completely different rendering. The most they can say is "thanks for the idea...", but the fact that WL asked him to make something for them, and the fact that he gave it to them without implied ownership means WL did nothing wrong. I'm no fan of WL either, for that matter.

Nice diagram you made bert.
Yes they basically took your exact image and snazzed it up just a little bit by filling in some color, adding more battery detail and some 3D shading and put their copyright on it. I guess they figured that since you didn't put your copyright on it they could put theirs....but even if you did it probably wouldn't have mattered to them. Pretty bad that you do this for them and give them the image to use and they don't give or share credit with you. It tells you the kind of company your working with. I suppose you could contact their ISP and tell them; usually an ISP won't stand for image theft/copyright infringement and they'll tell them to take it down. It probably doesn't matter at this point as it sounds like they are about to be shut down anyway. It'll probably be perfect timing anyway as they were starting to get lots of complaints about everyones lasers going dim. You can't over drive the design by a factor of 3-4X or more and expect them to last very long.

I guess karma is taking effect for them. Theyve screwed enough people over with unheard of shipping times, dimming lasers, and bad customer service, and now they have lost their credit card handler and checkout service, and now they are being investigated by god knows who. My best guess is the government and the Better Business Bureau or something similar.

Yes, karma IS taking and effect I think. It's definitely not the BBB. The BBB has no real authority and only follows the US and Canada as far as I know.

This forum is about lasers, not about what's wrong with other forums. Thread closed.
