Clip on led light

Can you put forward recommendations for a clip on led light to be worn on a utility vest/body armour. It must be bright enough to allow the user to write/read or perform basic tasks in front of them. It should not rattle, needs to be black in colour, and with a red led(s).
It should be held securely enough that it won't unclip but it needs to be priced reasonably so if its lost or damaged its not a great loss.
Awaiting your advice.

Re: Clip on led light

Hmmm...you require a very specific profile for your light. I'm going to assume it's not required that the light be useable in it's clipped-on position...as those types of lights (especially red ones) are harder to find.

The Gerber Infinity Ultra, reviewed here may be what you're looking for. Just so you know, a black body, with a red LED is available, as seen here on Gerber's website. I think this light would be a good choice, the red LED version may be harder to find (order online) but at least these lights aren't pricey at all. As a side note, the Infinity Ultra could be used clipped to something like a hat brim or collar/jacket if necessary. The clip rides high on the light so most of it will sit inside a pouch if it's clipped into one, otherwise it has a small unobtrusive profile that's not likely to snag on other gear.

This light is definitely for close work since it's only a single LED, but it's pretty bright anyway. It would be good for reading/writing and performing arm's reach tasks...and could be used for navigation in a pinch...although in pitch black conditions (before your eyes are dark adapted) you can really only see about 5-6m in front of you with it. Since you said it's primary function would be a reading/writing light, I assume this won't be much of an issue though.

This is the light that springs immediately to mind, I'll check quickly to see if I can find anything more. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Quick and detailed response, thankyou. I like the gerber/cmg, but the twisty head and a rattles lets it down for the task i need it for.

I knew I had seen something like this before and have only just found it again -

A QuiqLite -
can't seem to hotlink the pictures here -
these are the images
in use
clipped to pocket

It's about 2/3 way down on on the BroadArrow.net lights page

Unfortunately it is only in white LED -
but it shouldn't be too hard to replace with a Red LED, and use a single 3V battery.....

I thought of this:

http://www.photonlight.com/products/freedom_micro/

Available in red, and you can take the chain off so it won't rattle. Small enough that you could easily secure it with velcro or some other stick on method if the clip isn't secure enough. Multiple brightness levels are a bonus...

Re: Clip on led light

Here's a site the indicates that the QuigLite is available with a red led! This light was designed for LEO use!

Re: Clip on led light

The Gerber Infinity Ultra no longer has the rattle on the newer models. I have the red LED model and it is great for what it was intended for (close range stuff). batterystation.com has cpf specials and they are only $15.00. I would also advise buying a few of their AA lithium batteries since they give a tad more light and are impervious to cold weather.

Re: Clip on led light

Yes, I was a bit puzzled. I bought a new Infinity Ultra last week and it has no rattle. Ironically, the FlashlightReviews.com pictures are more accurate that the pics on Gerber's own site! The tailcap is rounded now, like in the review for example.

Following the BatteryStation.com lead, I also found a deal they have going on that's pretty much exactly what you're looking for, but you might have to be creative to make it perfect. Their deals page here has a listing you may find interesting. Check out those Pelican lights that come in "red LED only", pushbutton switch, secure clip. The bright yellow case is an obvious problem, but if you were to stand the flashlight on its head and spray it with a matte finish spraypaint you'd get the black look you're wanting. Plus they're $7...at that price you could buy a few so that if one is lost you won't have to pay regular price!

Cool! thanks Roy - between us we may have found the right light......

Once I knew the name I was able to go to their website - not surprisingly:

http://www.quiqlite.com

and found their XP-440 series of Dual LED lights actually has a Red/White version -
which would seem to be ideal -
but with a caveat -
on that page it says:

QUOTE:
• Press once, first LED activated
• Press twice, both LEDs activated
• Press three times, both LEDs deactivated
UNQUOTE

makes sense for two white LEDs -
but for two different color LEDs - that would mean one of the colors is NOT available on its own -
it seems a grave oversight to me -
probably best to contact QuiqLite to make sure......

Thanks guys I like the look of the quiqlite but I think I will get one of the new Gerbers as well if they don't rattle....its an addiction.
Cheers
