Wait a minute. I keep hearing that these lights get super hot after a few minutes, I have the full size MCH- EDC dual output.
It just gets warm not hot after a few minutes because mine has a thermal step down that lowers the output gradually from the 1400 (or so) lumens down to in my estimation 250-300 after several minutes.
I thought this was for better runtime which really works. A 18650 will last for hours.. either way I love the tint and beam pattern on the EDC.
My question is, is there a step down with the single output mode? Or full beans all the time?

I can only talk for single mode lights, both versions will get so hot that you can't handle them.

I see, mine never gets above 40C..then it just cools down on it's own after a few minutes.
This tint (my estimation is about 4500K) is perfect for me and I like having the low (about 10% output) come on first because it makes a great indoor light as well.

I went out tonight and messed around with some of my lights. About 100ft to the tree

185509 is the Malkoff E2XTD
185427 is the new Cloud Defensive MCH2.0 EDC-DF
185333 Malkoff Hounddog Super.

Just an update after just a couple of months of use one on my micro MCH failed to me the light won't work anymore! CCS has been a PITA and they don't answer my emails and they received the light two weeks ago. TERRIBLE SERVICE AND TERRIBLE LIGHTS.
Just stay away from them.

To be honest…. You would think there would be a MUCH more noticeable difference between these two lights considering the lumen output.

Pretty wild actually how well that HDS does compared to a light that's supposedly outputting 7 times the lumens.

I wonder what the difference would look like at further distances between the two.

Up close, / medium distance the HDS looks to be a much nicer tint / colors look a lot better.

I have the Cloud Defensive MCH HC (latest programmable output/modes) as well as NB40 and SD50 HDS lights. At a 100 feet or less, the noticeable illumination difference is negligible, unless you are competing with a lot of background light. If you are competing with background light or distances much beyond a 100 feet, the higher candela of the MCH HC makes a significant difference. The MCH HC (on the 30% setting) provides significantly more throw than the HDS lights (at max setting) at distances beyond about a hundred feet.
I prefer the HDS beam profile, user interface, and color rendering for use up close.
The updates to the MCH family, more flexible programmable interface and dual voltage so you can use both rechargeable and primary cells, are significant improvements. I purchased the HC as I wanted a relatively small thrower with enough usable spill for edc tasks when necessary. It meets those requirements and I like it quite a bit.

I broke down and bought an MCH in the non HC model. I am curious to see how it holds up vs my surefire products.

Here is my breakdown of a Cloud Defensive MCH Duel Fuel light. I did not get the High Candela one because I don't need a super distance light with a hot spot. The light came with an 18650 unprotected battery and charger. It also came with screw on rings for the tail cap to prevent it coming on in your pocket. The good is that its a super bright beam with a center hot spot that is good for decent distance. The led is more of a natural white light, so its easy to identify colors and items at distance. The bad is that it gets warm fast. 1700 lumens is a lot of light out the front and you notice the warmth. Is it worth the 230$? Well its tough as nails, has a decent battery life and it can run on surefire CR123's (which I have plenty). It tucks nicely into my pocket and you forget about it.
