To All Flashaholics In Ciber Space :

We talked to CMG today, July 20th and
our shipment of the new "Reactor's",
will arrive next Thursday.

In the beginning, CMG only shipped a few before they found out about the
heat problem.

They do listen to our questions and concerns,
and they strive for the best quality control
possible.
They try to come to the forum when they can to hear what people have to say.

Even though a new product in the beginning might have a problem, the people who
make these products such as ---
ARC, CMG, EternaLight, Pelican, etc., are complete FANATICAL NUTS when it comes to quality control and manufacturing the best product possible.

These are not just manufacturers of products, but people who put their hearts and souls into producing as perfect a product as is possible.

If only more products made today had this
fanatical love for wanting to produce a quality product without cutting corners.

We hope those of you who canceled your orders
for the CMG "Reactor" will re-consider
re-ordering from us.

Thanks for listening.

Have a bright one !

From what the owner/engineer of CMG told
me, is they designed the fresnel lens
for the CMG Reactor.

okay, what i mean by my question, is that i bought (and returned) one of the first batches of CMG Reactors from a local store; heck, i hadn't even heard about them on CPF yet
grin.gif

i *KNOW* that store has original stock still. so, if i'm looking at second issue stock, how can i tell? i don't want to touch the old ones, right? heh

Did your Reactor (that you returned) have that fresnel lens on it??

What is the heat problem? I was aware of the cold solder joint problem, is the heat problem something else?

not that i'm aware of. looked a lot like the front of an Arc LS. i associate fresnel lenses with lots of concentric rings...

but as i mentioned, i bought one of the very first released ones, some weeks a go now.

it wasn't too bad, but i hated the switch, and figured i'd wait for a big sale and/or the more intense version (improve the switch!)

otherwise, it's a pretty cool thing.

Hello Everyone:

Their isn't any difference
of old and new "Reactor".

It is the changes inside that counts.

The loose solder connection appeared
to cause the heat build up.

Only about six flashlights got out
of the plant before the problem was discovered.

The fresnel lens is one of the
special features that set this
lite apart from the others.

I already know down the road this
light will keep evolving.

Now that the "Reactors" are shipping
(we get our shipment this Thursday),
the one CMG owner/engineer I talk to
all the time said they will get a lite
to Mt. LED Museum.

Is he still up there ???

Only six? I had a defective one and there were six total just at the one store where I bought mine upon it's initial release.

Ditto what geepondy said. My store also had six total. But instead of returning it to EMS, I called CMG and they told me not to return it but to wait until they shipped me directly a replacement. I got the replacement on Friday, and boy, with Lithium cells, its night and day different. If anyone gets this light, do yourselves a favor and feed it lithiums, if you can afford it. On liths, it easily outshines my X5-MT. I still like my X5 for it's mettallic look and am no way knocking it. I love them both.

Regards,
e-

Does this have a lifetime warranty? I'm interested but want to see quality problems ironed out first. If the switch is not solid , I would have to go with another brand. Also..no mention of reactor on CMG'S
site.

Hello Nite-Ryder and all flashing points
to see:

I was told by Tony Kaplan, yesterday
at CMG, who is one of the owner/engineers,
they thought only about six left the manufacturing plant (The plant is about
20-minutes from us, compared to the offices
being alittle more than an hour away in Chicago).

He mentioned CMG is directly replacing
the Reactors as they hear about them
from consumers.

My only guess as to differences mentioned by
Leddite, would be one of the first ones that
shipped and did not work properly, compared to the corrected unit's that now work.

There is no outside changes, only the
change in correcting the wire that wasn't
soldered properly.

Tony has told me, some of you have called
CMG and they do listen.

Don't you guys think they don't, but
unless you operate a business
of your own, there are things that can't always be understood nor changes made in the blink of an eye.

While I was on the phone with Tony, he was
reading some of the messages here at the
forum and again he told me to tell
everyone CMG does listen, they don't
poo-poo any comments and I know they
are a concerned company and a company with
very good products.

Eppe's Corner wants to thank
some of you who had the faith to
re-order the CMG "Reactor",
after first canceling your order.

Our shipment arrives Thursday and we will
start filling and shipping orders
this Friday.

I forgot. CMG wanted to get the "Reactors"
shipping before they added the "Reactor" to their web site.

CMG just sent us new images which we have
at our web site.

The LED in my replacement is much better then the first one that died. A hint of a green corona but a much wide white spot. From reading various posts, I guess all the low dome Luxeon's have a corona of some sort. With Lithium's the light is considerably brighter then my Arc LS and a much better beam.

If CMG is indeed listening, please do something about that horrible switch. I would only recommend this light if one was willing to use lithiums. However with lithium AA's I think you'll get a longer run time then you would the Inova X5 at a brighter output. Of course the Inova is machined better but the CMG would be passable if they had a decent switch.

Thanx Gary for your reply. I want to mount this on a bicycle handlebar so it would be subject to good amount of vibration an ruff use; do you think it's up to the task? Hence
my concern about the switch..I wouldn't want the flickering thing going on. In the past cmg's products have been solid....so I'll probably just go buy one.

I think you might be safe to use it on a bike. The dente part of the switch is on, not off. Harder to turn it off then on. Again on a bike, I would definitely use lithiums. With Alkaline's you'll be amazed how much it dims just in the first hour.

Hello Nite-Ryder:

Way back when, I remember reading in
Good Housekeeping or something,
you put a female

not a flashlight on your bicycle handlebar.

What's this world coming to, hell in a hand basket ?

I e-mailed this page to CMG so they will
read it tomorrow if they can. With them
being so busy they might not read this soon
enough so the e-mail is alittle insurance.

well, i made sure to play with some new CMG Reactors fresh in at the local store of toys (eastern mountain sports)...

all of this batch has zero detent for the on position. if you rotate the head 360 degrees, it's smooth. still the internal up and down motion during on/off.

since you can't readily tell when it's off for transport, storage, i did notice that loosening the tail cap some has a lock-out effect.

not a bad light for $32. still would prefer detents for positive on/off (or a tailswitch :> )

they also had a princeton tech surge as customer return, but it was dead, and they best i could haggle on it was $15. i figured if i could get the price down to $5, i could buy a new LED head from p-t cheaper but alas, no dice.

The head of the Reactor spins smoothly all the way around without batteries installed. With batteries installed it has detent for on position, no detent for off though.
