CMG Ultra: Fairly bright but oh, that brown ring!

Just received my Ultra and it is quite bright, though not as well projected as my AAA Le's with their nice center spot.

I am a little concerned about a subtle but noticeable light brown or sepia colored "doughnut" just inside the outer periphery of the primary beam. Is this normal? I've never seen it before with any LED. I'm not sure whether to send it back or keep it.

Anyone else have this problem/characteristic?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I just checked mine, and did not notice this "toilet bowl ring" in its beam profile. Overall, the color is similar to that of my Arc-LE, with a slightly less bluish tinged inner spot, and a slightly greenish white outer beam.

LEDs vary considerably, and I do not believe CMG would see this as a defect unless few or none of the other units display this ring.

Mine has the ring. It's an Ultra-G and the reflector area is coated in green HA. I think that's the source of the brown ring. As I understand it, the normal Ultras don't have the HA in the area around the LED.

Mine is also fairly bluish overall, more so than my Arc AAA CPF or LE. I don't have a regular Arc AAA to compare with.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I have a "regular" Ultra, and it has the forest green HA in the LED receptacle as you describe. No brown color in the beam. *Very* slight greenish tinge, (no more than an Arc LE) but no brown.

Oh duh. I should read more carefully before posting. You were talking about the Ultra and somehow I had Reactor on my mind.
