I'd like to get a folder to edc. I usually go for one in the 3" blade range. Is the voyager a decent knife? Are there better folders in that size and close to that price range?

I don't have experience with cold steel knives, but I am a fan of Spyderco products (I find the opening hole to be easier than a thumbstud)the Delica is a great EDC. Benchmade has the 'Mini-griptilian' which is on my want list, since the axis lock seems really strong (and just plain cool).
I posted in another thread that the kershaw vapor is a great value and is nice & thin in the pocket.
Browse around www.knifeworks.com and I'm sure you'll find something you didn't realize you need

the cold steel voyager series is very strong and have been tested to hold hundreds of lbs on the lock system. good knife.

I carried the 4" Tanto version for a couple of years, and was quite content with it - the pocket clip enabling an inside the pants carry on my strong side - very practical for EDC. Current EDC is a Kershaw/Ken Onion 1550ST with a blackened blade and some VERY sharp serrations. This was a gift from my girlfriend who saw my face light when I activated the "spring assisted opening" blade on a demo model. Words of caution: A. Apparently the spring action on these babes are very inconsistant when they leave the factory - as I tried out FIVE samples before actually selecting the one to buy. (Of course a very polite email to the factory did not recieve the courtesy of even a form letter response.) B. The belt clip is attached to the wrong end of the knife - at least if you are accustomed to a Voyager.

I think the cold steel voyager is an excellent knife in that price range. They have a very good reputation. Just when you buy a voyager, make sure they sell you the new model which has a removable pocket clip.

I agree that this is a nice knife..... very practical and all purpose. Lost my mine at LAX -left in my brief case. The thing is that I had been through probably 10 metal detectors in the previous month (January).
Oh well.......
