I don't know if this has been mentioned or not but last night Target in Atlanta,Ga had the backpacking 3 aa with cree for 19.99. I bought one and so far the artifacts are aggravating to me but it is bright. They also the 4 c collapsible model with cree for 24.99. I did not buy the 4 c model but it looked good.

I was looking at this today. Just don't need another lantern as I may already have one for every room in the house. :shakehead

You might wrap some Glad "Press and Seal" around the globe to cut down the glare and artifacts. Worked great on my old River Rock.

The 24.99 model is 4D and pack's away not a 4C

I saw that one too a week ago. Its nice to see Cree LEDs making their way into mainstream (target, wal mart, Lowes) products.

Thanks for clearing that up blacklight.. I put some PDA screen protector and it seems to work pretty good. Overall pretty nice.

the one thing I like about this light is the "XR-C" part...at least thats some info for speculation at performance
according to http://www.cree.com/products/xlamp_xrc.asp
  • 60 lumens typical @ 350 mA (4000K – 10,000K)
  • 54 lumens typical @ 350 mA (3000K)
thats rather low compared to the XR-E
source: http://www.cree.com/products/xlamp7090_xre.asp
  • Cool white: Order codes up to 107 lm min. @ 350 mA
  • Warm white: Order codes up to 73.9 lm min. @ 350 mA
we're at what? Q5?

hopefully it will have a low mode...:candle:

I got one too. A lot of light, but a bunch of artifacts. Of course, if we have another hurricane 4 day power outage like 2004, I can light the neighborhood. Between that light, a GE 4XD flourescent, a Coleman SLA flourescent, A Coleman 2 burner propane, a Snake light 3XD Flourescent and a bunch of incan and a bug bunch of LEDs we'll have light. Just really hope the 'Canes stay South of us.

it has both a high and low mode. yeah its currently a Q5 I believe.

If you are going to order one from the Coleman site using F&F I would recomend http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=2000000268&categoryid=1045 instead as it is higher performing, and is showing a lower price right now (will have to be fixed eventually, obviously a mistake)

thats pretty much expected for smooth reflectors. Can you give us an approximate range in terms of spill?

Personally I might just buy one, try not to trash it durin disassembly, and post lots of pics inside one of these days:sssh:

Wait until the next big surprise, I can't talk about it yet, but I am hoping to make some people pretty happy with some product that will be in retailers in July

Now that's just plain cruel! Not even a hint? Even by PM? I can keep a secret.....Really!

Blacklight, what is the beam pattern like on those new 123A flashlights? They look sweet, but I have not seen any mention of them anywhere on CPF.

Hey Grey, the pattern, in my opinion is very smooth and uniform, not too tight, but not floody. the XR-E tend to require better optical solutions as they have a larger, more floody pattern naturally. Grey, i still have your personal info, when those hit in the next week or two I am going to send you one, as a thank you for your service to your community. Would you prefer the 1 cell or 2 cell? Then you can let people know the good and the bad as well if you want.

I'm just hoping for some Q5 bins and a diffused beam pattern on the upgraded lanterns.

Blacklight:

Thank you once again for your generousity. From what I read it looks like the only difference between the two lights is output. Let's go with the one cell for size. And not to be greedy, but would you consider throwing in one of the collapsible lanterns? If not I'll purchase it off of the site. I find that an interesting accessory. You can count on a review of both as done before.

I can swing it, no problem.

I have the older version of this. I was quite disappointed in it compared to my River Rock and even the 4AA Energizer fold ups. It was very dim.

So, how much brighter, if anyone has both, is the CREE?

Thanks.
