Howdy,

I bought some C-celled Coles-branded alkaline batteries a while ago (Coles is an Australian supermarket).

I was happy because they were cheap. Less happy when they leaked within weeks of purchase and then burned my hands when I opened up my non - working torch. It was about a week after a l lab accident with phenol, so I'm sure it was the acid.

Coles won't replace devices without proof of purchase and the defective goods. I get why, but I never kept receipts for small purchases and I threw out the cells immediately so I could run and wash my hands.

I've had plenty of cells forgotten in torches leak eventually, but this happened a few weeks after installing them. I bought Aldi batteries next and they've been fine (evem their rechargeables are pretty good and give me nice runtimes).

I don't know if anybody else has tried them. Scientifically, I should try to replicate it before blaming their whole line. Pragmatically, I'm not putting their stuff anywhere near my stuff again.
