I happened to receive a catalog from US Plastic in the mail this week.
They sell solid cast acrylic rods in 4-foot lengths for $10 to $48 depending on the diameter (0.375" to 2")
The material apparently melts at 350°F so it may be possible to form these rods into relatively inexpensive LS collimators if you have the right tools.
For more info, see http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=USPlastic&category%5Fname=Acrylic&product%5Fid=Clear+Cast+Acrylic+Rod
