I'm wondering if anybody uses the Comp-Tac Light Holder for the MD2. Does the Surefire 6P model fits the MD2, bezel down carry?

I just received an email from them saying they don't make a specific one for the MD2... and they're unsure that the 6P model will fit right.

I'd like a bezel down holster and it seems like a good one, better than the Blade-Tech. Any other options? The v85a is also a nice holster, but the spare batteries compartment is completely useless for me and makes it too bulky.

Comparing my MD2 to my 6P, I would guess it will work fine; the MD2 head is fractionally smaller than the 6P's, but it's barely detectable.

I just LOOOOVE head down holsters.

Blackhawk makes a good one,Surefire has a couple ( V70,V85 ) and Comp-Tac's holster is good also. Try to get exact dimensions of the Malkoff head and let CT know what you want. Ask for Greg, the owner,he is almost always willing to help.

I already have the Blackhawk Mod-U-Lok on the way, but I also want to try the Comp-Tac. This is for my duty flashlight, so I really want the best holster!

The v85a was my first choice, but the battery compartment makes it really bulky compared to the Comp-Tac (and I use 18650 anyways).

Here's their answer for the MD2 :
I asked my Shop Manager about the Malkoff MD2 and he is not sure it will fit in our Light Holders. We currently do not make a specific Light Holder for it. You can try to fit it in the Light Holder for the Surefire 6P, but we cannot guarantee it will fit and we don't really recommend trying to fit different makes/models in Light Holders that are not made for it specifically. I would hate for you to spend the money ordering it and then have it not fit and have to pay to ship it back for return.

The MD2 head is 1.22 inches in diameter. A SureFire 6P is 1.25 inches in diameter.

Thanks for the official answer Gene (and thank you for all your awesome work!).

What's your bet on the Comp-Tac holster? Do you think it would fit bezel down? Is there any way to get in touch with them to have one custom made?

Those Kydex SF 6P scabbards are mine. The one on the right is a Ky-Tac Lite-Rac, not a Comp-Tac.

For reference, 0.03" is about the thickness of my thumbnail. I doubt that difference matters unless the Comp-Tac's double screw adjustment is already at its lower limit when fitting a standard 6P (and that would be poor design IMO since effectively you don't have a lower adjustment limit anymore -- the screw adjustments ought to be in the middle of their range).

Mic'ing some random SF and clone 6P-type bezels of various vintages, I get:

New version 6P bezel with hex flats: 1.246" diam
New version 6P bezel with hex flats: 1.246" diam
Old style round, completely smooth 6Z bezel: 1.246" diam
Old style round 6P bezel with vertical ridges at the leading edge: 1.238" diam
Old style round 6P bezel with vertical ridges at the leading edge: 1.229" diam
Old style round 6P bezel with vertical ridges at the leading edge: 1.250" diam
SF G2 Nitrolon bezel with removable bezel ring: 1.268" diam
G&P clone bezel: 1.259"
G&P clone bezel: 1.259"

If a scabbard is going to accommodate a 6P, then it would seem to me that it has to account for manufacturing tolerances, as seen above. Granted, 1.22" diam for the MD2 head is still less than the smallest measurement that I found for my various 6P bezels, but it isn't far off.

Interesting information.

The 6Z design is the same as the MD2, no angles or hex flats. I assume that if the 6Z fits the holster, the MD2 also would.

Well I found a "temporary" solution (maybe permanent?).

Blackhawk Mod-U-Lok.

Fit with the MD2 is perfect. Of course, the rubber strap was left in the box, I didn't even try it!

I love it!

I was using a Ripoffs with clip-on holster before, but it wasn't practical for duty use.

I love the Blackhawk Mod-U-Lok. My flashlight fell twice since I got it, both times when I squatted (not really squatting, but more like leaning forward really low, just like if you want to look under a car with both feet still on the ground). I think that my bulletproof vest pushed it out of the holster.

I'm getting a new custom bulletproof vest soon, so we'll see if it still happens. But seriously, it's not a problem... It only happened in awkward positions and never during normal duty use.
