I have read the above post on the compatibility of the Aleph with the "E" series surefire, and a few custom set ups....my question is, what other surefire, or other over the counter units shares this feature? and are there any reliable custom 3x123 bodies now being offered, that share compatibility with the Aleph? thanks

Those mentioned in the sticky thread are the only options I know. If you know more ... pass on the info ! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

On 3 x 123 your choices are the UBH (currentlw available from DSpeck) or the Balrog BE3 (no longer available)

And let me mention, that the builders have seem some issues with both the UBH AND the Balrog bodies. Compatibility is assured with SF parts, but we can't control the toleraces of the third-party parts that SHOULD be compatible. Some of these other bodies have been enough out of tolerance to NOT function reliably without extra machine work. Beware.

Darell ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif ... any consistently known issues or random events?

Aleph switch action is a little uneven on the UBH body. There is a little ridge just inside the tube, that I think 'catches' the switch and makes "high" activation sometimes troublesome. YMMV.

I think the observed issues must be random events. The two issues I've seen were pretty major, if they were widespread, we'd have seen all sorts of people throwing fits.

OK, this may be a design issue, then, since I've seen it and at least one customer of mine using a UBH has seen it. We worked around it by using a smaller o-ring on the McE2S module, but to really fix it you need to re-bore the tailswitch end of the body.

I say design issue and not flaw because the UBH apparently works just fine with OEM surefire switches (Z52 and Z57). This difference, while not significant with the SF switches, obviously IS significant when using the McE2S. The UBH predates the McE2S by a good while, so it's hard to assign too much fault for this, but if the UBH actually had the same geometry as the SF bodies in the first place, this problem wouldn't have come up.

What tylerdurden said.

The UBH and Balrog bodies don't follow all the SF dimensions. They follow them close enough to work with SF parts though, apparently.
