Was in my local Horrible Freight store a few days ago, they had a broken HID on the clearance table for $10, so I picked it up to use for parts.

The natural choice for the organ transplant was my Thor Cyclops, lol. The Thor uses an H4 lamp and the HF HID uses an H7 lamp so I had to machine an adapter ring (no big deal).

Now the Thor had separate switches for low and high beams; with the HID I'll only need to use one switch, so I'll have one "blank" switch leftover.

Any ideas what to use this blank switch for...?

I wonder if you can modify the Harbor Freight HID ballast so you have an "overdrive" mode. On an automotive lighting based forum I also visit (HID planet) some members there have successfully done Bosch and Denso/Toyota ballast and one person has done a "kit" ballast. The HF ballast is most likely similar to an HID kit ballast.

Supercharging a ballast involves bypassing/changing the value of certain resistors on the board.

Great idea, but...! The HF HID's ballast is fully potted. Actually the ballast itself looks like a glob of RTV sitting in the light casing... quite crude actually!
