I went on a clip hunt too today--here's what I came out with: (Photos later if somone reminds me)
Note:Terrible as it is, I managed to go clip hunting w/o my Arc AAA and it's BP clip
Murphys Law I think that first time I'm without that thing in weeks and it's when I need it most. Not to worry though, should I have needed light I had my SLS
Snap gate clip thing from Loews--I actually made a rip off verson of the BP "Key Chain" and thought that this could go on it. You see, I wasn't sure if I would like a key chain (Literally) or not--so I told my dad I'd make him one too if he paid for the stuff...it worked
Anyway it's wayyyyyyy too huge to be practical for every day use. $1 something
Local hardware store ("True Value" home of the $11 CR123--not that I ever purchased one there) had some clips and things in their chain section. For $1.09 I made away with a Wire gate clip. It doesn't have the dedicated hole in it like the BP clip--and the best way I can describe it is like one of those keychain biners except with the torsion gate wire design. Certainly not bad for $1, but I think (It's on my keys) it'll eventually be replaced with a BP clip.
I am doing some lanyards for use with FRS radios. I want some clips for them, but the lanyards will only see occasional use. If I owned Surefire I'd use the BP clips in a heartbeat, but I don't--so I have been looking for something cheaper. What I found (I am going to try and find one locally Saturday) is these things called "JiveWire" from Black Diamond. They're nowhere near the quality of the BP clip--they have plastic bodies...but they have that wire gate design that I've fallen in love with, so (depending on size) they should work great for these occasional-use lanyards...here's a pic
They're about $1.85 each...
As for the BP clips...I've been searching all night for something of similar design and come to the conclusion that they're the best thing out there for the price. Sure I'll use these $2 clips on a lanyard I'll probably use once a year, but for every day applications (Like on my Arc AAA) I'm sticking to the Berkleypoint clips...they're tiny and smooth operating like a...like a...fine watch
