...one should not burn lumber in a fireplace/stove, because of the chemicals the wood is treated with can cause unhealthy fumes.
Nothing wrong with burning cutoff pieces of standard dimensional lumber because it's got nothing added to it, same with the branches of course. The stuff you're worried about is anything formed which has glues and anything that's been painted or treated.

Clint isn't anti gun but has advocated for tighter gun restrictions since the 70s, like firearm registration & waiting periods to purchase, I am bemused by a comment he made during an interview with Larry King asking "why would anyone want an assault weapon?"

An AR15 isn't a Military firearm 🤪
Actually, here in the USA, any registration or waiting period is viewed as "anti-gun".
Same way smoke damages wall paint... in small increments 😋

Question in regard to power tool batteries:

My Black & Decker string trimmer battery is dated 2019. Keep in mind the climate of Kansas, a lot of the year the trimmer is not being used at all, and then perhaps weekly during the Spring and Summer months. I try to use the slow charger mostly, but have at times used the rapid charger. How much longer do you think I have on this battery? Guesses are okay, as I understand I am not providing any data.

What's the battery chemistry.?

If it's lithium, fully charge it fast & have it ready to use.
Don't keep it on the charger, really!

Yes, it is lithium. And no, I don't leave it on the charger. Once it is charged, I immediately put it back on the string trimmer. Then usually it sits at least overnight, sometimes for days, before it is used again, but sometimes it will go right back into being used. But again, that is only in the Spring and Summer when it is being used--the rest of the year it is left fully charged from the last charge, until the next season of use.

Isn't the waiting period intended to provide time for background checks to prevent sales to criminals & mentally ill persons?
No. Now we have NICS, it is an "instant" (actually can take from a few minutes to days, depending on the FBI workforce and whether it is difficult to identify you) background check at the point of sale. Generally takes a few minutes. Here in Kansas, if one has a concealed carry permit, the gun dealers don't have to do the NICS check. Right now, for private sales, individual to individual, no background check is required, but the minions of tyranny are working, ever working, to require background checks for private ownership transfers. So, for a parent to gift a rifle, shotgun or pistol to an adult child, it would have to go through a licensed dealer to transfer ownership after the child is background checked. Tyranny never rests, patriots must be ever vigilant and fight all the time to preserve freedom.

Just based on the reputation of B&D, when it comes to branded power-tools, you're scraping the bottom of the barrel. I'd say don't worry about buying a new battery since in your case it's a tool that very rarely gets used. For someone using it a lot, I'd say buy a spare battery now.

My first ever power-tool was a B&D drill I bought so many years back that I can't even remember the exact year. Still works.... But yeah, I practically never use it. That's probably why it still works. Charging up that battery is like a trip to Rio for a working class stiff. About once in a Lifetime.

EDIT: Typo.

Background checks can be done instantly. It's honestly just a BS "feel-good" measure some slimy politician came up to show his constituents that he's Tough on crime, and doing something about it!

It accomplishes literally nothing. Bunch of other politicians realized it's a great smoke & mirrors way to convince ignorant voters that they too are tough on crime, so they advocate for it. Stop and think about it.... A spree-killer wants to take out a lot of folks in a crowded area. Picks a date. Goes to buy a gun because he knows he somehow has a clean criminal record. Told he has to wait 7 or 15 days before he can pick it up. Okay.... Goes home and waits. Bit annoyed that his timeline has been pushed back a bit. Picks a different date. Gets his gun, goes to the crowded area he already picked out and does his thing anyway!

It's idiotic. It has never prevented a shooting. Never will. But implementing it is much easier for an elected politician than actually coming up with legit crime control measures, and targeting criminals. Longer prison sentences for using a firearms while committing a crime. Much longer ones. Closing loop-holes that make it easier for former violent felons to legally get a gun. (Which by the way, we're seeing the exact opposite happening in America, as such individuals are now successfully lobbying to get their 2nd Amendment rights restored.)

But lobbyist groups run by mentally diseased individuals will always protest against such REAL measures being put into place against flesh & blood criminals. Always advocating for their rights. No one protests nuisance idiotic measures placed on law-abiding citizens.

EDIT: Clarification.

oh HD is known for restocking returns unchecked, i had it happen to me more than once. i'm opening every box now before i pay for it. i had wrong faucet in a box, a tool set with missing tools,... they have a great no question return policy, but it has it's downside, if you are buying things.
Yesterday, I returned an electrical box with a cover to the home depot. The clerk took it, put a label on it and tossed it into a bin. I asked, what did he do?

He said, "it was used. Nobody wants to buy used. "
I said, amazed," it wasn't used."
He said, "I can't sell it like that. It's all about appearances."

I guess they changed their policy?

No 'open box' buy, huh? Appearance Shmearance.
Shoot, I bought a "open box" $30 charger cord at best buy for $20 this week. If HD had open box cordless Ryobi's when I bought mine, yeah I'd buy it.

Yeah, me too.

I think it was posted somewhere here that one can buy a pallet of returns at discount, or auction.

Usually ends up on ebay being sold as 'New / Other' using a stock photo.
Some seller has a 78.4% feedback selling Projection TVs' as 'New / Other'

tempting

Naw, not in my experience, at least, about 6mo or so i did renovation in my appt, i went to HD to get 2x2 and 1x2 led fixtures, even thou there was plenty in stock i could not find enough of unopened/undamaged/ not taped up boxes, only few were brand new unopened in boxes that were intact. all of them were sold as new. I took all that were actually new, and went to another story in LI, same story, some of light fixtures were returned, judging by messed up boxes. If your local store does not sell returns as new, you are very lucky,
