Correcting \'too green\' Luxeons

Gentle Friends,

An intersting thread on this topic was started over on the LED forum by a member who found a filter material that corrected the color making it 'more white'.

It ended up with my buying a large sheet, cutting it up and offering it to CPF members who would send me a self addressed, stamped envelope. I still have plenty of material, it seems to me that some here might be interested?

OK, folks, the last piece is 'spoken for', the SASEs are coming in, the first minusgreen filters ship tomorrow.

Thanks to all involved, I hope they report back here on their results.

The first 8 pieces are on their way to their new (hopefully happy) owners.

Re: Correcting \'too green\' Luxeons

I received my piece of "minusgreen" from Mr. Owen yesterday and THANK YOU VERY MUCH Doug! I have a slightly green but bright L4. Let me say I much prefer SLIGHTLY green way more than the sickly blue/violet most KL1's and KL3's are known for. I wanted to try some to experiment with the L4. I can tell you, this stuff is amazing! It totally cleared out any green and turned the beam just about pure white! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Now there is a slight penalty and with my naked eyes I can tell the brightness is not what it is without the minusgreen. It's not a great difference but it's there. I'm sorry but I don't have a light meter to measure the difference and have no web picture host and can't post pictures. All I can say is if green LS's bug you, try this stuff and you'll be amazed. One more thing, this stuff doesn't come with any sticky backing like WriteRight. What I did on the L4 is I used a piece of minusgreen slightly smaller than the lens and then went over that with a piece of crystal clear WriteRight that covered the whole lens.

Thanks Doug

I tried the 1/8th minus green on my TL-3 LED and 3AA SL Lux (both slightly green). Big improvement. There Is a noticeable drop in brightness, but not bad for the color inhancement.

Re: Correcting \'too green\' Luxeons

Doug-can you wet the surface going against the lens, and make it stick decently ?

Re: Correcting \'too green\' Luxeons

Glad folks are having good results with the 1/8 minusgreen. I'm gald I went that way, rather than the 1/2 minusgreen, as nobody wants to take out more photons than necessary.

I like the idea of weting the surface, but think water might be a bad choice as it will dry out. How about mineral oil?
