I just got mine tonight and was attempting the same thing (trying to run mine down). But now that I know that there are multiple cells, I quit. Don't want to reverse a cell.
These are tempting, but I think the best survival light is something like an Infinity with an AA lithium. The batts in the sqeeze light may be useless after sitting around unused for a few years, plus there's the risk of mechanical malfunction.
I think the best use for the Squeeze is for little kids who love to play with lights but always forget to turn them off.
I bought one tonight too. Plenty at my local Costco but no Luxeon lights that people talk about to be found. I won't bother reviewing it as plenty said here except to say it ran for over an hour straight from the package. I like the concept. I would be willing to pay more for one that was maybe a little smaller, and a little more durable so you could have a greater feeling of dependency should you stash it away for a emergency light. It does say in the package not to submerge in water but I would like a little more guarantee of water resistance for say changing a tire in the rain.
I never got a reply from my email inquiry to GEI, buy thanks to the dissection performed by blinkycat we now know this unit uses a battery instead of a capacitor. I too feel this is something to give the kids.
I can see maybe having a few around to supplement more reliable light sources, all depends on the longivity of the rechargable batteries assuming no use. From what I can see, the light is simply not quality enough to try and modify to become a serious primary emergency/survival tool.
