Lanterns and handheld searchlights with a carrying handle are two designs were size and weight is not so important. Even if we make it no larger then a conventional gas lantern it could still fit up to 12x 21700 cells in parallel for 60.000 mAh capacity. But having the option to run it on fewer cells & also 18650s would be nice.

Another idea is a quick detach battery magazine/holder that sits underneath via twist bayonet attachment & could even be stacked to increase runtime even more. Rotary dial for infinite brightness adjust & included diffusors. Perhaps even an optional reflector shield. I already talked about this in another thread I believe. But yea im german so expect kraut space magic.

the 21700 is to long and narrow to stand up easly
Depends on the Design. I have 2 lanterns that take a single 18650 that are just fine even have a magnet on the bottom.
I think 3-4 18650s or 21700s in a lantern would be more optimal for a personal or up to 3-4 people. What would be better I think is a lantern that can hook up to an external 20v tool battery of any brand you could use a battery with 5x18650 up to 15 21700s and if you could use any brand of battery and have a lantern that is better designed than the tool branded ones. With the power of that many cells you could have a 5000 lumen mode if you wanted it or 1000 lumens for 4-5 hours or more even. If you had a long cord on it you could even hang it up high without having a heavy battery load on it.

I already have a couple: a Mag ML300 that runs on a single 26650 with a adapter that can also be fitted with a 3D printed stand and diffuser to turn it into a lantern. I also have similar set ups for Mag ML25's and ML50's running a 21700.

I’d like to see a 21700 cell light that’s usb rechargeable under threads of tail cap (not under rubber cover), over 4000 lumens on turbo, and with a single warm white emitter. Should have good square threads on tail cap like a Surefire light so no cross threading. Needs a forward clicky on/off tail cap switch and a selector ring on the body for brightness settings and strobe mode. This allows for tactical and everyday carry use as light will come on in preferred setting first every time. Should have 1, 50, 150, 500, 1200, and 4000+ lumens for settings along with one strobe setting (variable frequency). L.e.d. should be Cree XHP70.2. Doesn’t need SOS setting as you can signal anything in Morse code at any preferred brightness setting. Should have pistons inside on both ends (like Inova lights have on one end) but with two contact platforms on each end. One for 21700 sized batteries and one for 18650 and 123A cells. This is so you can use any sized cell without a battery magazine. Should work with 3.7 volt batteries and up to 9 volts. Should be made to work with unprotected cells. Should be type III hard anodized and IPX-8 waterproof. Electronics should be fully potted and body should work with 1 inch gun mounts. Tailcap should be a forward clicky but recessed like Klarus lights so it can tail stand as well. Should be under $100. The idea is to have both a tactical and every day carry all in one light that isn’t over complicated, runs on a variety of battery options without battery magazines, and is reliable under all conditions.
