Hello,
I just purchased my first CR123 powered light, a RA clicky 140GT. I am now carrying this light every day. I was out fishing on the lake the other day and when I go out for a full day I like to carry a couple of extra cells with me. I had 1 AW lithium Ion protected cell and 1 SureFire primary in a 2 cell plastic case that is not water proof. As I was moving the boat around the dock I was leaned over the water. No I didn't fall in, but the thought did cross my mind "what if". What do the people with some experience with these cells think. Maybe this is a bad idea around water? Going into a lake is not unheard of fishing and this would create a short circuit condition in a cell. Should a better way to carry around water be found?

Try to find a pill fob. I have one that's perfectly sized to hold one 123a battery. A little cotton in each end keeps it from shorting, and it has a thick O-ring. I found mine at my local Rite-aid, at the cash register.

Hope this helps.

+1 I got mine at walmart for like $2-$3, I just put some foam that i cut out of a pelican case in each end. It works great.

Goinggear also sells these Pill Fobs. Currently on sale for $1.99.

How much are the ones found at Walgreens?

For CR123's the Going Gear aluminum containers are perfect. Mine arrived last week & are watertight & a perfect fit for AW16340's or regular primary 123's. Construction quality & threads are good, with a good rubber gasket seal.
They are small & cheap enough to attach to all of your CR123 light sheaths if you want to carry a spare with you.

Salt water lake? Don't think you will have a problem with non salted water, and have never seen a warning on a CR123, or package that says keep away from water. Doesn't mean you shouldn't rinse them off, and dry them off with a towel, if you do drop them in water, any lake, river, etc.

I use these for general storage, they hold four perfectly. They are in the crafts section of Hobby Lobby (and walmart, where this picture was taken).

jefcsun: I found one at Rite Aid for $3.99. Its bigger that the one at Walgreens, and cheaper. I think the one at Walgreens was $4.99 or $5.99. The bigger one has a plastic liner, and enough room in the lid to hold a few aspirin with some cotton stuffed in. Works great.

Bullzeyebill: well now that you mention it, it's a fresh water lake. I just figured that the impurities would raise the conductance enough to cause a short. I'll check next time i'm there, i'll have a meter with me then.

I purchased a waterproof match holder with my last Lighthound order. Two cells with a thin piece of Pelican foam fit perfectly and don't rattle. If you don't like the orange, LH also has a dark green one for another dollar.
