Aside from Surefire carriers, I've only been able to find one other site for CR123A batteries (inanycase.com). I have an otter box from batterystation, but I'd prefer something specifically designed for 123s, any ideas? Or should I just bite the bullet and buy a surefire carrier?

Depends on how many you need to carry at a time, there was a thread discussing just exactly what you're asking, most CPFers came up with their own way of carrying a couple of spare 123s in their own novel way. I'll see if I can dig it up and post the link here...

I Modified a Leatherman tool adaptor belt case (by cutting out all the tabs inside) to take 4 123's. It rattles a bit but it's compact, and always to hand on my belt.

I tend to trod around with my 60 liter Bach backpack, which holds about 630 123's. Heavy, true, but preparedness is eveything, isn't it?

El-Cheapo:
The black plastic Kodak film canisters for the advantix film work very well. They need to be squeezed just a bit to fit two cells in them. Free for the asking at your local photo shop.
Raid the kitchen:
Use the little plastic rubbermaid containers for food, and leftovers. Cheap and pretty indestructible. Can also fit spare bulbs, o-ring lube, etc...
OK Spend a buck:
The orange match containers in the camping section at wal-mart. (not my original idea)
Spend lots of money:
SF SC1, SC2, SC3.
Live Very Dangerously:
Toss open cells in pocket with keys, change, etc...
Minimize carrying spares:
Leave a stash at work, in the car/truck/boat, at home, etc...

I purchased a pelican battery storage case from BOTACH. They have several different options to choose from. mine holds 12 and 2 spare lamp assemblies. I love mine.

I bought a pack of 12 Streamlight brand 123 cells recently that came in a clear plastic rectangular pack that looks like a good storage solution, although not extremely tough.

Thanks guys. I think i'll hold off and end up getting an SC-1, whenever I decide the time is right for my first surefire /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yeah but my Pelican 1550 holds 2000 spare CR123A batteries, so there. Ha Ha. I like the Otter 1000 myself and that match carrier for two is cool from Wal-Mart.
