CR123A Storage Safey Question

OK! this is a super NOOB question.

i normally keep two CR123A in a water proof match case, and i normally keep a piece of paper inbetween to sperate the two batt's contacts. BUT since there is no complete circuit anyways, so it okay to store the two batts with out the piece of paper?

Only if the top and bottom contacts are the same type of metal, otherwise you get ∆d.

Ie, a self generated small voltage, ≈ potential difference.

Not sure though if this really matters.
