I've run a search, but can only find multiple references to RCR's. Supposedly the Ultralast's are made by SF, is that true?

And if so, does that mean we trust them to be decent quality? They're avail in 12-packs for a decent price, so I'm curious.

And...by chance has anyone heard of any counterfeits in this brand? How to recognize?

Thanks!

1. Surefire doesnt make batteries. they use private labeled Panasonics
2. Ultralast 123's are crappy cells with poor runtimes and poor storage characteristics (from my experience)

Hmm. That does not come as a SHOCK. (The price was on the edge of suspicious)

:anyone: else with something to offer?

Thanks!!

I bought a few UltraLast CR123A's that I found retail at $2 each.

I just did a test on them where I connected them three in series to a 7.2 V 0.7 A bulb while measuring voltage and current.

The open circuit voltage was about 8.4 V (2.8 V per cell).

On connecting to the lamp, the voltage declined steadily, reaching a low of 5.5 V and a current of 0.6 A after 3-5 minutes before my patience gave out. At this point the voltage was still slowly dropping. The cells were also getting noticeably warm to the touch.

I have not done the same test with any other CR123A cells, but a voltage of 1.8 V under a sustained 0.6 A load does not seem like good performance to me.

i found I whole bunch of rechargeable ultralast batteries for 48 cents each. They work great, I love em.
