Cycling through Nitecore New P30 brightness levels

Howdy, folks. I apologize if this is the wrong forum. Amazon just delivered my Nitecore New P30. I opened the package and started exploring the brightness levels and modes. Everything worked as expected. However, when I did this again a few minutes later, I could not cycle through the brightness levels. It seems to be stuck in Ultra Low.

1. Turn on light, it's in Ultra Low.
2. Short press the Mode button, it shifts to a higher brightness level, then immediately reverts to Ultra Low.
3. Subsequent short presses of the Mode button have no effect until I turn the light off and then back on, and I'm back to step 1.

Am I missing something here or did I get a defective light? I'll contact Nite core, but I wanted to check here first in case the problem is me and not the light.

Ok, mine doesn't do that. Try doing the battery status check to see if the light thinks the battery is low.

Thanks. Light showed 3.1 V. A little bit of charging and it cycles the brightness levels. In hindsight, the light was giving me a big clue, but I didn't grasp it. LOL.
