I was almost too embarassed to shared this story, but I thought other mights learn from my folly.
I know nothing about modding or working with the internals of my lights but I have always been curious and I heard how easy it is to disassemble the RC-29, so I thought I'd give it a go. It took some time, but I disassembled it without any difficulty. However, I had some trouble figuring out how to reassemble it. I finally did but in the process I busted one of the O-rings. No huge deal though.
Then.....I noticed the beam looked a little weird.....
Something was going on with the emitter. I disassembled it again and the glue that held the dome over the emitter was bubbling, so I wiped it off and in doing so knocked off the emitter dome. I then tried to reassemble the light without it but it totally changes the output and makes it much dimmer. So then I tried gluing it back on and it seemed to work fine but the glue got all over the the dome. I was able to clean some of it off with nail polish remover, but there is still some on the inside of the dome in front of the emitter.
In the end, the light still works but is very diffused. On flood the light looks smooth still but is much dimmer and doesn't have the clean circle of light that it used to. When fully tightened the beam looks really ugly and splotchy from the glue. However it still looks quite nice in the in-between levels and the flood mode isn't that bad, so I guess the light is still a bit useable, although I wouldn't be surprised if it goes poof soon from the glue on the emitter. All in all it was a series of dumb moves, but I guess I learned something from the experience.
Luckily I also have a rc-c6 II WW and the RC-29 that I just damaged was from KD and only 15 bucks, so no big loss.
Well, thats my story. Hope you got a chuckle.
