For what? For room lighting, flourescents win. For pin-point sources, HIDs win. For cheap initial cost, incandescents win. For low power consumption in low power applications, LEDs win.

There's no "one size fits all" lighting technology.

Mark has it right. The application is crucial to answer the question. I voted incandescent because I love over the top brightness and that nice HOT beam (feels good on my back), but I cary an Arc LSH as an EDC. LED's have obvious and major advantageous: long life, good low-power efficiency, impact resistance, etc. I am also one of those weirdos who prefers the full-spectrem albeit lower color temp incandescent beams to the ghostly white LED beams. YMMV.
