I just got an email from Kyle at Dealextreme telling me that he just got in these new lights! Bad news was that the DX Cree light is having some problems (note that it's just the DX Cree light, not the other Cree lights he sells) due to the driver circuit. He's really ticked at the manufacturer and he's stopped selling them until they can prove that future lights will be better quality and CHEAPER, if they want his continued business. To keep the current DX Cree customers happy, he's sending them one of the new Seoul lights (or they can get a refund). Talk about customer service!

It's nice to see a company stand behind their products and go the extra mile. I've been very happy with them.

I feel much better about DX since they removed the U2 forgery from their store.

I've always been happy with them because they are always trying to do the right thing, even if some mistakes are made.

Oh noes :(

That's not great news for us who were impatient buggers :p
Got a confirmation email that my order was sent (including the DX Cree) but am unsure if that is including the DX or the other parts of my order, as I accidentally included it with an existing cart! Oops!
Contacted them and said to ship seperately if there'd be much delay. We shall see.

*shrugs* as long as it works until I get my L?D-CE I don't particularly care. Still havent decided on the L1 or L2. Decisions decisions.

I agree. Just look at the Hemse incandescent light they sell. I have one, and noticed that it really shouldn't be used for 20 minutes solid at a time. Someone else posted a review of it on Dealextreme's forum saying the same thing. Dealextreme posted the comment in its entirety right on the product page for the light! They do seem to be very honest about their products, based on what they learn about them.

Well, after reading the link FlashCrazy posted I'm very impressed at the attitude of Dealextreme. Very impressed!

I've ordered with them in the past, and they will split orders up for you if there is one item holding the shipment up, and the others are ready to go.

It's too bad about the DX Cree light flaking out, that looked like it would be a pretty good one, but I actually like the looks of this one better anyway. According to the reviews on Kaidomain (who is also selling what looks like the same light) this MTE light is brighter than the Cree based lights.

Kyle at DealExtreme has been a pleasure to work with and communicate with. He is trying very hard to get in bargain priced models of the latest and greatest, and has been very open and honest about any issues that have come up along the way. Kudos to Kyle!

So everyone who ordered a DX is now getting a Z instead?I never got an email
from them about this.

Battery life looks pretty poor according to Kai, and it's CR123 only. I'm thinking of switching my order to the other Cree light.

Hmm. for some reason I didn't catch that the last time I read it. 1 hour runtime for the production model to 50% brightness, as an improvement from 35?! While it's true that two CR123As has about 33% less energy than 1x18650, the DX light was tested to run 3hrs to 50% brightness. This light (if the LED consumes the same power) should last 2 hrs. To be that inefficient it seems they would have to be using a massive resistor to drop the 7.2V down to 3.7 and wasting 50% of the power! I can't think of a reason why anyone would they do such a thing rather than running direct-drive off a 18650, but I can't think of what else would cause runtime to suffer that much, either.

No mention on either site about any kind of regulation, which was one of the features on the original DX Cree. Original DX Cree was advertised as being capable of having full regulated output on 18650, RCR123, and primary batteries. Battery life on 18650 was like 3 hours to 50% on original DX Cree running 18650 while the Seoul replacement model is listed on the Kaidomen site as having a runtime of only 30 minutes to 50% using only RCR123.
So if my understanding of this is correct the replacement lacks regulation, has fewer battery options, and has 80% less runtime with declining brightness.
Somehow I dont see how this could be considered an upgrade from what was originally offered in the DX Cree model. Anyone that thinks I have misinterpreted what is being offered here as an upgraded replacement please feel free to reply.

I ordered 2 X 18650 to go with the DX, the batteries have arrived, so now I have two surplus to requirement 18650, I think I'll cancel my order I'd prefer a 18650 light.

Update
Kyle contacted me and offered a me a couple of alternate lights that take 18650's. By the way my email was answered in three hours. Very prompt :).

I did the same thing

The only reason why i ordered a DX 3W-Cree was that it uses a D26 LA...

The replacement light uses a Seoul on star...i don't want another direct driven cheap light, so i asked for refund...

Hmm...guess that makes my choice a bit easier. I was deciding between the DX Cree and the U2-style Cree on Kyle's site, along with the new Ultrafire Cree C2 on Dae's site. So many choices...not enough time to surf the web.

I went ahead and upgraded my order to the Seoul Z-Power, since I know MTE makes good quality flashlights.
