Dell is coming out with a cool-looking ultra-portable PC. With a 1.6GHz "Atom" CPU (equivalent to Core Solo 1.2GHz), up to 120GB hard drive, and up to 2GB of RAM, starting at just $400, this will be a tasty morsel (time to buy some Dell stock).

Oh, and it will not come with Vista, and will be available ONLY with WindowsXP or Ubuntu Linux 8.04.

Coming to a dell website near you, this June.

I know what I want for my birthday now!!! Hehe.

That really looks nice. I like the red color also. Having a bigger hard drive seems like an advantage over the Eee PC 4G I currently own.

So it's almost the price of a larger and better equipped machine? Sign me up! :shakehead

I think the POINT is that it's SMALL. :poke:

Most ultra-portables are in the premium price range (>$1000).

Furthermore, a screen resolution of 1280x800 on a 9.6" screen is unheard of AFAIK... and with a long battery life, and very light weight, I really fail to see your reason for sarcasm. Sure, you could lug around an 8-lb 15" PC for an extra $100... but would you really want to? This isn't meant to be a desktop replacement...

I guess they are positioning it to compete with the new EeePC that's due shortly (also based on Atom).

Btw - how do you like your Eee? I am 6'3'' and I have pretty large hands. How does the ultra-compact form-factor influence your ability to type correctly, and read the screen?

I really like my Eee. It's keyboard isn't as comfortable as my desktop, but I really am okay with it.

The whole concept about the Eee is that its small. I use such a small bag to carry it most people don't even know its a laptop.
