DFW Texas summer Flashapalooza 2010 It's On!! **Pics added post #2**

Re: DFW Texas summer Flashapalooza 2010 It's On!!

It was great to meet you guys. I got a free shirt & bought a Nailbender drop-in. That's a decent night.

I caught some flak from my wife for forgetting to bring the spatula home, I told her it was a good trade for a burger.

Re: DFW Texas summer Flashapalooza 2010 It's On!!

I had a blast! I blinked my eyes and it was over :mecry:

I feel like I never had a chance to ask all the questions I had, or even answer one fully, just went by too quick!

If anyone took pictures, please send them to me at
Untitled.jpg
so I can ad them to the second post. First set of pictures is up!

Thanks for making this the best DFW GTG yet!

If anyone accidentally got home with a Coleman Lantern, please PM me so I can get it returned.

Thanks for putting this on Matt, and special thanks to the vendors who supported the raffle. The two guys I brought had never been before and aren't even on cpf but will be now.... they both won cool stuff in the raffle... I won a zebralight..... too cool!

We missed you Michael "saabluster". Hope you can make it next time.

You're very welcome! It was a blast! That's cool that everyone left with something, and we'll be getting some new members!

Anyone see that Coleman Lantern? It's really special to a new member. Please PM me.

If you snapped any pictures, please send them to

so I can get them up. Thanks!

I missed yall too.:mecry: Unfortunately my wife and I had to go out of town on fairly short notice. We had to skip out on our anniversary plans we had for the weekend as well. Looks like you guys had plenty of fun without me.

Awesome job Matt!

A big Thank You to all the people that worked to make this a reality. As a relative flashlight noob, I really enjoyed the chance to chat with many of you there and play with all the cool lights ya'll brought!

Thanks to the sponsors too. It was great having more prizes than people (in a good way, cuz we had a nice turnout), so that everyone got something. I received a cool light-knife doodad which is in my car now, and the Lanterns and headsets were really cool too. Obviously the zebralights were a really nice donation also!

Of course I find this post 2 days after the event, I would have liked to be there:mecry:

Matt did a good job at making it fun.
Just the fact alone that seemed everyone walked away with a prize "if not two" made it something to compel newbies to come to and also come back.

Yes, I was called a geek for going, but that same person said they may go next year after hearing how much fun we had!

It was great talking to Matt and his family.

And, of course, seeing all the lights and new members.

Kudos for a great event.

I didn't have my new Hi-Power UV there, due to this email from Luminus:

"Thanks for your interest in our UV LEDs. Engineering samples are available for $425 per device. These samples have no warranty. They have a peak wavelength of about 390nm and optical output power of 10W."

Like Matt, I regret that I didn't have enough time to ask all the questions I had, about all the lights exhibited.

Thanks again to Matt & the generous benefactors for putting this all together.

I was one of the lucky recipients of the zebralight H31W.

I'm very very pleased with it....

I already have the h60w uses 18650 battery and an H30 which uses a cr123 and I am most happy with my new H31W.

Since I have two, you may ask "why do you need three?".. only to share!.... especially while I'm fishing at night and have two other guys in the boat.. we all get one!

My new one is my favorite for several reasons...
Its smaller and less noticeable strapped on the forehead as it uses the cr123 "I'm using a rechargable however". the H60w "was" my favorite light as its beam is so wide it gives you a feeling its not nightime even though it really is as everything in front of you have a nice soft light to it.
For anyone who jogs or gets sweaty while using these, I recommend the lighter ones that use the cr123.... AA is prob ok to.

But my new H31w is twice as bright on high and has a nice spill thats just was wide as the others but also has a piercing beam that cuts a long distance.... they are two different lights completely... notice how the reflector size is much bigger on the new ones too and the die is small.. allowing lots of throw.

And yes, for soft lighting the warm is easier for the brain to interpret what you see... if you don't believe me.. throw a penny or small object into the grass and try to find it with a warm light verses not.. the warm will be easier to interpret what you see.
The higher kelvins are more useful with very intense lights.

I found this out while fishing in my boat at night with tying line, dangling fishing lures, dealing with ropes, cable, bouncing fish into the boat, etc......warm was better.

Forgive me if I double post, but I wanted to share this info and pics with you guys.. Ill will make another thread dedicated to the H31W.

I had to go check my mailbox after seeing this thread get bumped, and low and behold, my Zebralight was there!!

Thanks again George for your generosity!!!

They are only 1023 X 612.. at first they were much larger but smaller now..

If you are still getting the very big ones... refresh your cache.

I run Firefox with my cache in ram so a simple shutdown of FF and restart fixed mine after the change.

800X800 is the forum maximum, I like em big, but the moderators would say otherwise.

Crap.. no kiddin?
They need to move up to the 21st century!.. LOL!

Many forums resize them automatically then you can click on a header to see the full version if you really want the detail. My camera phone is set to 8mb size!.... I'll rechoke.. I mean resize them again!

It takes photobucket a little time to fix the links. If it doesn't fix itself, you can delete the pics from photobucket, and when you re-upload them, there is a preferences tab that you can set the maximum to < X 800. Great cell phone pics! I need to move up to the new age and get a real media phone!
